Re: Conditions Alert Considering Today Existing And Tomorrow Forecast.

We were wrong on the conditions forecast for today and there
was considerably more in the way of icy substrates than we
anticipated. As a consequence we observed there were
some areas closed, portions of Tiguidou and Laurentienne
being examples, also, next door, Algonquin had some thermal
icy flow zones you had to careful with speed around. There
were others(but they may all be different tomorrow).

All this was due to far less carryover warmth/softness in the
surfaces than we anticipated. The point is that if you look at
the forecast for tomorrow, taking into account todays reality,
if you haven’t done it already, you need to get out the file and
do your edges tonight. This is a critical utility notice.

The evolution of these conditions is in many cases, outside
of human control as it is simply the laws of +/- Zero C physics
acting in such broad strokes that it is difficult to know how
the balance between thaw and froze is happening across the
far corners of the Groomed terrain. Grooming does render
the majority, but Mother Nature works in mysterious ways
without telling anyone. You need the edges to handle the
surprises and there could be evolutionary surprises for the
foreseeable future.

Act accordingly.

Welcome To Authentic Winter!(#)

It’s Been Like This For Weeks and Weeks, Month Over Month!

We have no idea who this person is, their unbridled joy
in the moment was a completely spontaneous gesture
of legitimate joy as we were setting up to take the pic.
of the extraordinarily fine conditions here on Versant
Soleil, just exactly the way they’ve been for weeks and
weeks, month over month.

------ Joyful Disclaimer Caveat: ---------

With all due respect... The professional Ski Resort
industry pays beautiful smiling models to appear
in brochure pictures for marketing campaigns, here
at Tremblant360 we have the privilege of only being
able to post genuine joy of the moments that happen
totally without planning or arrangement, but we can
tell you for a fact that even though we can’t capture
them all, they are happening every single minute here
due to the refined quality the Tremblant Mountain Op’s
crew produce every single morning.

--------------------------------

(#) We define Authentic Winter as the extended
time period in the mid-season when the temps over
elevations remain consistently below Zero C. For sure,
it’s going to get warm, but so-far there has not been
hardly any significant thermal effect for literally months
and we want to highlight that in a retrospective sense
before the heat comes on Saturday, because there are
fewer and fewer places on Earth that are in locations
that get Authentic winter for this long, that are easily
accessible enough to support a Ski Resort, let alone have
uninterrupted, authentic winter measured in months.

Bracketed Performance Conditions.

When the temps float around Zero C and
various sides/zones get or don’t get thermal
influence we can find what might be
called “Bracketed Conditions”, in this yesterday
case, 2 areas of firm winter-like bracketing
a soft spring shred zone. These situations
can be a daily fingerprint of change and
evolution, but the point is that if you have
a preference, look for patterns and don’t
be afraid to do multiple repeats.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Very fine to excellent today with the consistency
bias to Green’s and Blue’s with their lesser slope
angles that are not as sensitive to traffic wear that
can expose firm base substrates in the same way
that can sometimes happen on steep pitches.

It should be noted that even the vast majority of
Black Diamond steep pitches have been very fine
too, but depending on traffic volume of what can
be a busy Quebec School break week, there can
maybe be some reduction in the loose top layers
as constant applied turning forces moves them
aside on some of the most popular Expert runs.

Well tuned sharp edges are essential across all
Black Diamond Expert ranges, and recommended
everywhere else as well because there is no substitute
for optimized mechanical advantage for either safety
or control inputs, regardless of terrain challenge ratings.

There could be some sweet late day softness on lower
Sud/South and Soleil ranges so they might end up being
prime "Grip ’n Rip" zones after lunch.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Very firm and somewhat lumpy with solid substrates
and some icy bits make for less on the forgiveness
scale, however for those with properly prepared gear
and patient, conservative speed control, the advantage
is very good coverage over the entire open range for
the next few days at least.

Looking forward there are too many wild cards in the
temp and precip. models to know how/what/when
coverage may be effected but for sure, if you’re
planning ahead, “Sooner” is better if you want big
scope availability.

For today specifically, late day solar energy could
make this a very sweet afternoon for trails like
Ryan Bas/Lower, and if you consider the future
weather, some of the last access of the highest
quality, as the very bottom levels begin to show
loss of coverage.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
