After 10 minutes on the Mountain yesterday,
you understood to...

Expect The Unexpected.

There’s a possibility today might be similar...

One minute it was snowing....

A few minutes later it was sunny...

Meanwhile, up at the Summit, It was snowy overcast
pretty much all day...

Weather Notes:

As part of the anything goes weather, while it is forecast
to soon be only overcast, so far early this morning it’s
accurate and it is quite actively rainy at base levels and
the Summit is in the cloud. We do expect that to clear so
at some point towards the noon hour the sunny forecast
may actually get real?

There was a lot of active weather movement yesterday,
it was one of those typical early spring days where the
big sky drama was changing by the minute. This scene
below did not look the same a minute before, nor a
minute later as the clouds appeared to be boiling up
there as they quickly moved across, occasionally making
snow flurries one minute, then showing little patches of
blue sky the next.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Due to continued thermal influences that we think
are going to make things similar today, here’s a
review of yesterday(with the prerequisite that you
should be ready for anything when temps are
oscillating around Zero C), and notwithstanding
that there could be every/any forms of un-forecasted
precipitation.

Some people thought it was easy, others thought it
was sticky and slow, but overall we’d have to call it
very forgiving due to the softness everywhere.

Whether or not you thought it was easy or not maybe
depends on how patient you were with navigating
moderate thickness. Shallower slope angles did present
a bit more effort to sometimes push through tracking
or ridges but on the flip-side, steeper slopes had a
fair degree of automatic speed and gravity control that
we thought made them really easy.

We think all of that is going to be similar today
however it should be noted that the peak in daily
conditions quality will be at early/first tracks where
trails are freshly groomed.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Obviously, looking at the Open terrain groups, here
are the most sensitive trails and zones that are affected
by both heat and rain, as well as the absence of early
season snowmaking so the base is more fragile as it
relies completely on only natural snow.

Where open... it’s all quite softly forgiving, but it
is showing some loss of coverage and depth so
we think some of the current closures are for
preservation as well as safety. There are more
visible hazards, but with the soft edge-set banking,
they are easier to avoid.

There is snowfall potential in the near-term forecast
and that is the best hope right now for recovery.

Statistically, mid and late March frequently benefit
from snow storms, even blizzards, so we’ll be
anxious to see how Mother Nature can contribute
if we get any kind of “Out Like A Lion” winter re-boot.

General Summary:

Super-soft Spring with all its uniquely variable
fingerprint conditions... everywhere.
