The Spring That Hasn’t Wanted To Sprung...

...until tomorrow.

Typical spring conditions would include several weeks
of significant warmth generated soft skiing, but this
year its only going to be several days.

The Summit never broke over -1C all day yesterday,
it felt more like an early March day, not a mid-April day.
The summary was “breezy and cool” and today is currently
setting up to be more “breezy and cool” to start with, however
there continue to be temperature inversions over warmer
upper elevations, so loads of potential wild cards in the
possible mix above and below Zero C.

It is important to note that within the almost endless
temp induced variations, firm to soft, the default is
smooth and the vast majority of the groomed are
somewhere between very good to excellent.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

There are revolving zones of excellence, both from
a daily perspective, and between morning and afternoon,
so even on a hourly perspective, all brought to you by truly
unique mixes of temp influences having a tug-of-war
between ambient air at both +/- Zero C pulling one way,
PLUS... the stored super-cool refrigerant reserve in the trail
base, pulling in quite another way.

There are revolving zones of challenge for exactly the same reasons.

In The Groomed:

There are vast tracts of superbly excellent freshly
groomed.

One Of Dozen’s...

Yesterday, Versant Nord/North Side P’tit Bonheur
stood out as an extraordinary example of skiing
on “Butter”, like at cool room temp’s., not too soft,
and definitely not to hard, just right for mega-carve
high performance over a uniquely smooth, fast and
grippy surface.

In multiple P’tit laps, most were with Zero other people
so it was totally safe to rip it up from side to side with
legitimate lateral g-force.

On the flip-side, what was prone to be a touch icy
yesterday might have a shallow but beautifully soft
high performance surface today, while what was
soft yesterday might be solid today, for a while.

Our forecast therefore, is that you will find many similar
samples of superb spring conditions today, maybe in some
different places, maybe in the same places. The likelihood
is that there will be overlaps of both the excellence and the
challenge that could be shared from yesterday to today,
but they will not be exact.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Where open... Some surprisingly easy, fun conditions with
great base coverage in the un-groomed and... Look at the
snow in the bush, it’s not like this everywhere, but for sure,
and as usual, in the upper Lowell Thomas sector there is
still great coverage and loads of reserve.
