2/26/10 Conditions

Post by T360 »

Last Run... Weird, Wild and Wonderful!

What an unusual day!

Short, due to high winds, but surprisingly Great!

Who could have guessed the carving would be this good...

Tremblant was not affected, not even by one shred,
from the rain that fell everywhere else...
all we got was snow.

Read through this post below first, because despite
the problems with extremely high wind velocities affecting
lifts, rain and high temps covering much of the East Coast,
everything to do with Ski and Board conditions worked
out to the best possible scenario regarding "Wildcard"
factor below.

Everything we thought supported hope for great
conditions at Tremblant turned out to be true.

Once again Tremblant navigates past Mother Natures
"Glitches" to come out on top!

Fantastic skiing... and we can prove it!

Scroll down to "replies" for Pic's 'n detail.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wild, Windy, Whacky, Wet Weather!

This morning is pretty much a definition of a "Wildcard",
although we feel there are reasons as outlined below,
to feel positive.

Showing 92 Officially open runs this morning, but, and
it's a big but, the only lift open at this stage due to the
high winds is the Expo Quad Chair.

The Expo chair is also the listed lift for the "First Tracks"
program, so apparently, participants will be bussed around
to the North Side for that.

Hopefully the lift situation is temporary and we should see
the other lifts come on-line soon.

Back to the "Wildcard" concept.... conditions are going
to need to be evaluated on the basis of the 4 sides of
Tremblant, ie: South, North, Edge and Soleil, as well as
top to bottom. The number of variables is very high in
terms of this borderline rain/snow event and the possibility
exists that we may have benefited from the snow that fell
last night, without having damage from the rain that came
down on the South Side before midnight.

Keeping in mind that our Summit is usually 3 to 5 degrees
Celsius colder than the base, conditions between the top
and bottom may be vastly different.

The first supporting factor of hope for conditions quality
is the following web cam snap shot, courtesy of http://www.tremblant.ca
this pic. clearly shows snow on the roof of the Duncan Chair
Control Room building.

If there had been a significant thermal/rain event, this snow
would have been washed off the steep pitch of this roof in
minutes.

Another factor of hope for conditions is the 92 Official Trail
count. If there had actually been major damage, that trail
count might be much lower, and typically, would show many
"progressive" or gradual trail openings.

There is still much hope for the day when this report shows
such a large Open inventory.

This could be an example of a day with very changeable
itinerary and you may see multiple modifications to the
"Official" open trail count. Be sure to check back with

updates.

Yesterdays Last Run:

100% Snow in Mother Natures display of winter weather
yesterday. Standing at the summit at "Last Run", there was
an impressive, even awesome presentation of natural
weather factors. As a skier, the most notable was the range
of snowflake size. As there had been the day before, there
were snowflakes up to the size of dimes, but there were also
very small, tiny snow crystals being driven by the very powerful
wind.

Skiing in on Nansen to the mid-point, then traversing over to the
TGV and on to lower Beauvallon, there was 100% carving traction
everywhere and the combination of snow particle size and the wind
packing it in, produced a beautiful surface with immense grip.
If today is anything like that, it's going to be a great day!

We'll let you know....

Fantastic Skiing at Tremblant... and we can prove it!

Believe it or not, and even though that sky in the
background is just about black, between 2 and 4 things
brightened up to the point that the sun came out over
the South Side! Conditions on the Mountain are nothing
short of phenomenal!

Just take a look at this last run pic!

So if you look at the file data, we hung around at the
Summit (till 4:30) to take some Apres Ski Pic's after
the sun came out, and Boy did we get rewarded!
If that pic above doesn't tell you the story, nothing
will!

But even before that, we skied as much as we could
from when the Gondola opened and it was all good!

Back to the grooming... hopefully the Tremblant
Mountain Crews will get to as much of it as they can
and they were all ready to get started right after last run.

The Above Photo was the product of these guys in the
below photo. We waited until 15 or so after they left
and what you see above is what we got!

And Now For Something Completely Different...

Sunshine Powder on Zig Zag ??? Are you crazzzy?

Nope, take a look... after all that wacky weather at
base level last night, we've got powder on Zig Zag!

2 point Last Run summary:

There's something for everyone at Tremblant, right now!

If you're not planning to Ski Tremblant,
you got the wrong plan!
