3/16/10 Conditions

Post by T360 »

Fun, Fantastic, Fabulous, Fine... Actually, Very Fine!

BONUS ALERT: Tremblant Open Lift Hours Extended to 5 P.M.
This Week!

Anyway, on to todays conditions which to briefly summarize
are pure spring magic.

We have 80 Open runs under brilliantly sunny skies with almost
no wind compared to yesterday!

There are acres and acres and miles and miles of fabulous
terrain for all skill levels here and anyone that thinks that winter
and skiing/boarding is over is sadly mistaken!

North Side conditions remain superior in terms of firmness and
flatness. The North just has less impact from the long afternoon
sun.

It needs to stated that while the warmth and the sun are welcome
elements of the spring skiing scene, spring skiing with the soft,
sometimes heavy, thick consistency that comes with higher moisture
content, needs its own technique adaptations for beginners and
intermediates to successfully navigate.

Basically, you need to have a low, centered, compact stance.
The more compact you can be, the less likely you are to be tossed
around by the bumps, or to catch an edge in the thicker spring snow.

Many portions of the South Side were in great shape all
day long, however, steeper pitches rapidly turn into
bumps.

Mother Nature does another "Cut and Paste".

Sunny, warm, moguls on steeps, beautiful Green carving zones, etc., etc.

Here are 3 pics for your review...

Alpine very consistently has some of the best conditions at Tremblant.
Always smooth, very steady pitch.

Beauchemin at Last Run. Here you can see shadows typical
of North Side runs in the afternoon. Those shadows have already
been there for over an hour so the snow there has firmed up and it's
great carving on those surfaces.
