Mother Nature Files Another Copy Of Yesterday!
82 Open Trails, a forecasted high daytime temp
of +11C!
Sunny spring conditions continue in a streak of mild
March weather that feels a bit like late April!
Maybe not quite as warm as yesterday, but at
this rate we really don't want to get too used
to the heat as it's not so good for the snow!
The remarkable part though, is the seemingly
endless ability of the Mountain to hold on to the
snow surfaces despite the thermal energy of
the sun and wind.
Part of the reason for this durability is the sub-zero
overnight temps which re-solidify the snow softened
during the day. Another reason is the around the clock
efforts of the Tremblant Mountain Crews who have
the experience and the equipment to restore the smooth
flat surfaces every night after a full day of heavy traffic.
Late Afternoon Action On Johannsen!
Starting out every morning as flat as a Pool Table,
by late afternoon moguls are carved out on all the
steeper pitches at Tremblant. This shot is less than
500 meters from the South Side base of the Gondola.
This photo above illustrates the "Mashed Potatoes"
consistency of late afternoon South Side conditions.
Looking across the tops of the moguls here it is difficult
to see the depths that exist between them. The boarder
in this shot was actually doing an excellent job of speed control
with frequent turns in good balance. These moguls were
approximately 4 to 6 feet in length, 3 to 4 feet wide
and up to an 18 inch depth with a 4 to 6 foot spread between
their tops.
Any significant speed off an 18 inch ramp would put anyone
up in the air, but when you combine that with the steepness
of the mogul sides, speed will eject the unprepared just about
straight up into the sky with a surprise launch and a potentially
painful landing.
Keeping a low, compact stance with lots of shock absorbing
capability is absolutely critical in these situations.

We continue to promote the North Side Green and Blue
runs as superb carving for all skill levels. This shot shows
the "side door" onto Sissy Schuss from Gagnon and the
quality of the snow surface is obvious. We have also
spoken about the shade the North Side gets from the
late afternoon sun that bakes the South Side at this time
and you can see that clearly here. This shade is helping
to keep these surfaces in excellent condition and there is
excellent grip to be had from top to bottom on the North.
Dedicated Skiers and Snowboarders will find Tremblant
with excellent overnight recovery as Mountain Crews
are keeping our surfaces up to high standards on a daily
basis. Conditions vary from morning onward, due to sun
and traffic, but you can always find great surfaces with
a bit of exploration.

Carve This!
Anybody that was wondering where there was some
excellent, smooth carving terrain... Here's the short answer:
North Side.
There was miles of this on the North Side,
but don't tell anyone, you'll spoil it!
