WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SUNDAY!
Up to 30 some odd CM of snow with
blowing and drifting factors.

(Possible Powder Day Alert)

Apres Ski 360

Evolutionary, "As time permits" Apres Ski...
Very busy activity level on the Mountain today with
24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser ...plus all the
expansion of open terrain. Will be out on the 24 hour
course later, so will have some pic's from that later too...

Scroll down to replies...

Please Note: There have been some negative comments on Tremblant's
Facebook page. It seems apparent that there are some individuals who
may be unsatisfied with things in terms of published trail counts as well
as conditions on newly opened trails.

We give our opinions in todays Apres Ski...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Much News!

Tremblant 24Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser
starts at Noon, today.

First day Mountain Open 'til 3:30! Bonus 1/2 hour!

North Side Open! Top to Bottom on Beauchemin!

Expo Quad Open!

There are places on the North Side that have
drifted depths of up to 45Cm, 18 inches of
recent fresh snow.

Skiing and Boarding are Excellent Early Season Conditions!

Our thanks also to Tremblant for hosting a great 24Hour
kick-off event at the Summit last night. Going up to
Grand Manitou at night for a party with live music is a
blast and there was a full capacity crowd Rockin' the
night away!

Pages under construction, but those headlines should be enough
to have you racing to Tremblant!

Adding more now...

McCulloch's first day totally successful.

Surfaces have a high percentage of Natural Snow and the
edge set properties are excellent. There is a lot of very soft snow,
almost zero in the way of slick or icy spots. There are some areas
where there are thicker "lumps" of packer tracked surface, but
as time, traffic and additional grooming all occur, it will do nothing
but get better.

This shot also highlights the top of "Flying Mile",
just right of top, center screen, where you can
clearly see the dual course setup that will be used for the night
portion of the 24Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser.

Your options increased 100% today with the "Top to Bottom"
opening of the North Side via the Expo Quad Chair to Gagnon.

(judging by the snowmaking you could see from the Lowell
Thomas loading zone, they're actually using the first sector
of Sissy Schuss, left turn to Gagnon)
Beauchemin is open all the way to the Expo Chair.

Oh, and by the way, the weather today... Very mild, temps in
the -2 to -5C range, overcast with light to moderate breezes from the west.
A very easy, early winter day...

How good is the Skiing?

Was having fun exploring the powder line edge of the right side of
La Traverse, minding my own business, when the deep snow reached
out and grabbed me, tossing me backward into a soft fluffy snowbank.
Instantly realized "Photo-Opp"...

If you're not here, you're missing a rare early season treat, it's
that simple.

More later... thanks for your patience.

About Early Season Conditions...

(The following remarks are our very unofficial response
to people that criticized Tremblant in various
"Social Media" formats in the past couple of days,
regarding conditions/trail counts they felt were not up to
their expectations.)

Experienced Skiers and Snow Boarders understand the nature of early
season conditions. Obviously, there is a profound difference in conditions
when there is a 150 inch, mid-winter base of snow, as opposed to when
there is 25, a week and a half into December.

We have so much to be thankful for. Last year at this time we had only been
opened for 3 days, and we had far less coverage, far less open trails, far less
natural snow.

To expect mid season conditions at the end of the second week the Mountain
is open, is unlikely, and consequently, unreasonable. No one with any significant
experience at skiing or snowboarding would expect that. By deduction then,
anyone who does expect mid season conditions now, is inexperienced and/or
unreasonable.

Early season conditions are relative. Most notably, they are relative to "closed"
because 15 days ago, the Mountain was closed and there was very little snow
around.

We think the Tremblant Mountain Crews have done a phenomenal job.

To create the area of surfaces that have our current levels of smoothness,
grip and traction, compared to "closed" 17 days ago, is nothing short of
remarkable, so if anyone is complaining, then they are inexperienced about
what to reasonably expect for the length of time Tremblant has been open.

Criticism may always flow from those who are not fully aware of the nature
of early season conditions, and probably, that may simply be a lack of experience,
because as mentioned before, anyone with experience knows better.

Keep up the good work Tremblant. Those of us who do understand how challenging
it is to get a new season off the ground appreciate all the hard work.

As for the open trail count issue, we know there's debate.
We thought Tremblant did a good job of showing the "race" trails
earlier today, and we said so above, attached to the Official
Trail and Grooming status document we put in our post here
this morning. Take a look yourself, they're all laid out and fully marked.
Otherwise, we wrote this back on November 30th:

More Early Season Conditions Notes:

Of course, Mother Nature could always step in and give us lot's
of natural snow, so with that in mind...
