Thanks for the comment, although I will have to clarify my post above as I wasn't clear.
When I said "very least traverse on both the heelside and toesides" to get up on the lift, that does not mean being able to turn. Traversing is the act of going diagonally across the hill. Falling leaf is learned AFTER this point in most programs, in fact it's 2 steps after this animation if you look at the progression on this "learn to ride site" below.
See this link below, this is the minimum I would think a snowboarder would need before jumping on flying mile or the like.
