Apres Ski...

Traction quality going up by end of day, even in some areas that
were previously slick or icy. We think that might be due to the
feeling of increased humidity as the daytime temp reached its peak
in combination with a very gradual accumulation of new natural snow
that you could not hardly notice, but did build up.

84(*) Open Trails on all 4 sides of Tremblant.

Kind of a weird winter weather day in the sense that it's
currently overcast, but forecasted to be partially sunny,
and it's -18C but forecasted to rise to -6C and when you
look outside, the sky seems confused about which way it
want's to go.

There was none of that yesterday though!

"Blue, Blue Blue Sky, and then some more Blue Sky" was the theme for
yesterday.

It was a really good opportunity for us to get some neat North Park
Pic's on "Rope Tow", just below the Lowell Thomas Chair.

Speed, Conditions and Control Caveat In Effect
For All Skill Levels.

Be Very Careful Cruising The Mountain.

There are Conditions and Visitors that are a bit
unpredictable.

The vast majority of Tremblant's surfaces are in very
good condition with grip and controllability, but...

You need to be ready to avoid or stop for unanticipated
hazards from traffic and/or icy portions that present
themselves without notice.

Use great caution around others and be mindful of
variable surface grip that can change almost instantly.

(This was sent to us and is a sample of the variable
surfaces you could potentially encounter. The glassy
looking portions are ice which could only be seen from
certain angles due to very bright reflective sunlight, and
was provided as a similar sample to what this reader said
he found on Toboggan.
This was taken over Expo, which was closed yesterday
and has been groomed overnight, so it should be different
today, but you need to be ready for variables like this that
can show up in other areas.)

So then, back to the good part....

As stated above, the vast majority of Tremblant's surfaces
are in fine shape. The Mountain Crews are doing an amazing
job of making the best conditions possible. The evenness of
the good carving areas allows you to look good as you descend
on most of the Mountain and we've been pleasantly surprised
at how much grippy surface depth they have been able to make.

Even when not perfect, challenge is faced by intelligent Skiers
and Boarders as opportunity to improve and learn, so get back to
basics and focus on good, solid technique that gives you the control
you need to use to stay safe while enjoying the slopes of Tremblant!

Here's a sample of the nice, shred-able surfaces you'll find at
Tremblant right now. This is the "Side Door" entrance to
"Sissy Schuss", from "Gagnon". We use this path as an
alternate to get to the North Side Base from lower Lowell Thomas,
as well as MCA and Banzai.

Back to the "Fresh Tremblant Air" department...

While the big South Side Adrenaline Park gets most of the
attention, the North Park located on "Rope Tow"(trail #68),
as it runs right under the Lowell Thomas Chair, has a
nice group of enthusiastic users that range all the way from
beginners to seasoned flight pilots. There is a wide variety of
feature sizes to accommodate beginners or those that are less
aggressive with their "Fresh Air", but on a nice sunny day you'll
find lots of good talent pulling some decent tricks. This Park is
free and the big jump line does require a helmet to use.

Here's a close-up of the top half of the North Side where
the Park is located on Trail# 68. This Park is serviced by the
Lowell Thomas Triple Chair. This is a downloadable pdf available

If you've never tried Park features before, or you just want to get in
a few lines as part of your days variety, this is where real people
can come to explore their airborne aspirations in a safe, low key
environment that has feature spec's that aren't as intimidating or
all the size of bungalow's.

Even though this jump is rated an "M", doesn't mean you can't
get good air off it as this boarder shows. Hit it with enough speed
and you are definitely up there a ways.

Apres Ski...

It was most certainly a grey day.

As much of a mood altering thing as a grey day can be, the skiing
was very good and by last run there was even enough of a fresh snow
accumulation to make things feel a bit dressed up, conditions wise.

One of the things you will notice in this pic. is the snowfall which is
evident by the white streaks across the view.

Just when you think you're taking a pic. of one thing, later review
reveals another. Look at the 2 people in the lower right corner.
They appear to be having a bit of a tussle over who-knows-what,
either that or someone is helping a family member with a boot problem,
or any other explanation you can think of. Will we ever know for sure?
Only if the folks in the pic. see this and can tell us.

Park features looked very well maintained.

The net result was that despite the grey ambiance of the cosmetic day,
the ability of the surfaces at Tremblant to hold edge set, continues to
improve daily. We think that will get even better with mild, more humid
overnight temps and the possibility of additional fresh snow that is called
for in the forecast.
