Apres Ski, Apres Mid-Night Update...
Spring knocks on the door at Tremblant!
Scroll down to Apres Ski in reply.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
68(*) Open Trails at Tremblant as we continue to wait
for Mother Nature to make up her mind about Spring.
Conditions are excellent for the 29th of March. We have coverage
and quality that are not always common for this late time of season.
All the recent "Weather" may have presented "challenges", but if you
have your equipment up to par, you really should enjoy skiing or
boarding Tremblant's open terrain that is rated for your skill level.
With our tuned gear, we have been "Power Carving" all over Tremblant
lap after lap vigorously, getting excellent exercise, and enjoying the
fabulous views.
While it did not get that cold last night, it got down to -5C, so any
areas that might have gotten soft on the South by last run will have
firmed up overnight.
We do not feel that will change the quality of the surfaces much though,
because the South Side snow was fairly dry right down to within
100 vertical meters of the base. It should have been quite easy to
groom that out.
The forecast is calling for partially sunny skies and a high daytime temp of
zero C that won't be reached until late in the afternoon. The sun is not out yet,
but if it's like yesterday, we might not see it until mid-to-late morning, if at all.
There's a fine snow and a very grey overcast here early.
Based on that, we feel that the steadily improving conditions on the open terrain
will not only be stable, but be better yet again today.
During these spring transitional time periods, each new day at Tremblant
is rather like a fingerprint, unique and different than yesterday in fine detail,
but similar in the big picture.
The obvious trend though, is that the Mountain Crews are gradually covering
and recovering the groomed portions marked on the Official list below, to the
point that there is less of an icy factor as the days pass. On average, surfaces
that may have been marginal yesterday are better today and will be better
yet tomorrow.
The wind we've had in the last couple of days has been more than enough to
keep Summit and North cool, so traction and grip levels have been very good
for the most part. There are sectors of the bigger, wider runs that naturally
get less shelter from winds, so they have a greater likelihood of icy or
windblown hard surface, but those patterns are usually easy to see and avoid.
We've been gravitating to the narrower runs and/or sticking to the sides of the
wider runs where the snow quality is much more consistent.
The Snow Quality On These North Side Trails Is Excellent.
Here's why...
All the late season snow is still here for the most part.
Of course, it's been packed and it's settled, but it's all
in the base.
Conditions Caveat:
Everything that has been said in previous days about sharp edges, speed
control and caution while initially exploring the Mountain still applies.
There are icy areas, but if your gear is tuned, it will be very much easier
to navigate.
If you have complaints, we feel that you may have dull edges, are in
terrain that's too difficult for your skills, going too fast for the conditions,
or all of the above.
If you have sharp edges, select terrain that is within your skills and control
your speed, you will have a great day on the slopes here at Tremblant. Period.

Apres Mid-Night, Apres Ski...
Mild "+" temps, just above the freezing mark together with
brilliant sunshine combined to give Tremblant the genuine
sense of Spring in the air and on the ground as surfaces
from bottom first, then up to the summit, began to soften. North.Nice! South.Nice! With a bit of attention to details like equipment tuneup, and solid
well centred technique, you will have a marvelous day at Tremblant.
