92(*) Open Trails on the Snowy 4 Spring Style Sides of Tremblant.
The “It’s Not Fancy, but Totally Reassuring” Web Cam Eye Opener…
3.10.14.7.58.A.M.Summit.Web.Cam.jpg
The overnight low got down to -10 C, South Base Level and there was a
small, gentle Snowfall of about 3 CM’s which is evident in the Summit
Web Cam Eye Opener above.
The Best Part Is:
There Was No Wind!
That means that what Snow fell, descended straight down like a
smooth blanket covering all the Open Alpine Trail Surfaces.
The net effect this morning is going to be Very Easy, Smooth Surfaces with
Firm Substrates that are Quick and Reasonably Forgiving, needing care
and caution with speed due to potential Slick Spots that may be revealed
or created by Traffic Wear.
What remains to be seen as an un-yet absolute, is the Ontario Spring Break
Traffic Volume that should become apparent in about 3 hours from now.
If there are many, many big numbers of people out, the firm base will become
a more dominant factor in conditions. If the crowds are lighter, the new
Snowfall over the existing base of Groomed could have All-Day durability
for very fine cruising.
The Ability of the Surfaces to have Edge Hold Today at any levels of High
Performance in either outright Speed or Carving Grip will be very dependant
on the state of Tune of your Skis or Board’s Edge Sharpness.
Yesterday’s very fine Sunny Conditions may not be quite so bright
today, however the Light Snowfall Overnight will definitely add
to the Smoothness of the top layer.
With the comparatively fine and shallow depth of the New Snow, it will
not take too much to blow through the Traction Threshold and if your
edges are dull, at the very least your technique will involve mostly
side-slip skidding as opposed to carving. You simply can not generate
Lateral Grip without keen edges when there is a firm base.
That could change if things soften up significantly, but even then
good edges get you Sharp Shredding.
Above: Have all the fun you can in the Parks !!!
If you’re out on the Open Alpine Terrain after doing Metal Park Features,
keep in mind your Carving capability may be affected by dull edges
if you run “Metal on Metal”, so be aware.
The North Park Features have had High Density Poly material installed
on their top running surfaces, so use over there may be more practical
if you plan to spend the bulk of your day on Open Terrain and you want
to keep the responsiveness of sharp edges.
The Rest Of Todays Weather Picture…
There is actually a chance of the Sun peeking through this afternoon.
That may or may not happen, but the Super Easy temps, forecasted to
reach Zero C/ 32 F, are definitely here all day and that, together with
the equally easy light South Winds moving across the Summit from the
Top of Soleil towards La Crete/Nansen and P’tit Bonheur are going to
ensure the complete “User Friendly” qualities of Tremblant right up to
Last Run.
An Excellent, Mild Spring-like day with gradually softening surfaces,
good performance that may have some moisture related drag factors
where the softening is more pronounced. Go North if you want firmer
surfaces in that case.
The Square Area of Trail Coverage is 100% and there should be very few
Glitches on any Groomed Trails. Au-Natural Un-Groomed trails may have
some small and variable natural hazards, but the very well established base
is still very deep and resilient, so anything you encounter will be well below
the Expert Levels those areas are designated for.
