3/12/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle of the Night Shift Apres Ski…

A quite Wintery -17 C overnight low with continued Very Strong North Winds.
Peak Gusting at base levels at 50 KMPH, so imagine what it’s like up at the
Summit tonight.

She’s a Wailing, Howling, Banshee for sure, and when combined with
more Natural Snowfall, Lord only knows where it might all end up.

If the Weather Forecasting Models are even close, this may be close to the
last of the Winter Cold Night Time lows. There’s definitely a daytime Warming
trend on the way called “Spring”, so eventually that will drag the temps up
no matter what Old Man Winter wants to do.

This is all fantastic news for the Quality of Skiing and Boarding of course.
We love Spring Skiing, but we love Winter Quality in Spring too, so we’re
still very happy with the prospects this next 6 weeks holds.

If you can plan a Tremblant visit…. do it.

If you can plan multiple Tremblant visits… do it.

Fine Springs with Winter Conditions are not the norm, so best take
advantage while you can. There will be plenty of time for the Gym
this Summer.

91(*) Open Trails on the 4, 100% Snow Covered Sides ’n Slopes of Tremblant.

-4 C, Overcast, A Super Easy, Snow White Winter Day!

We are not going to get all of the huge storm that is not only responsible
for Official “Severe Weather Warnings” to the South of Tremblant, but has
made the National American and Canadian News as it travels from Kansas,
up, and across the lower Great Lakes, then down the St. Lawrence River
Valley on the North and as far south as Washington/Virginia and on up
and out to the New England States and Canadian Maritimes.

Tremblant is on the top band of Snow, but the snowfall here will be less
than the 25 CM’s Montreal may get.

Somewhere over here is where we think there’s a good chance for
a bit of Snow to settle as it gets whipped over the Summit from the
Nor-East, basically coming into this scene from the left hand side.

The Tremblant Bonus is that we won’t get the Heat
at +4C Montreal is forecasted to get on Saturday.

Bottom Line…

Tremblant will keep what ever Snow it gets.

Thank Goodness it’s a Ski Resort!

The only real Operational Consideration today is the Wind. It is
very Strong and so-far from the North-East, so basically
blowing up P’tit Bonheur/Beauchemin.

Even at todays relatively mild temp, the outright wind velocity
could make you feel cool, so paying attention to outer layer
Seals and Overlaps will optimize comfort.

As long as it does not swing around a lot, we think there won't
be any Lift complications, but we could be wrong. The reason we
don’t think there will be is that coming across the Summit from
the top of Beauchemin, the South Side Lifts are in the Lee or shelter
from the winds on the way up and as they make the final crest,
both the Gondola and the TGV should be facing almost directly into
the wind. That will make them quite Breezy when disembarking,
but at least they should not be swinging unsafely.
On the North side riding up either Lowell Thomas or Duncan, the
wind should be mostly at your back.

A second consequence of the wind may be Surface Conditions,
and in that department we could see anything and everything from
Upper North windblown exposed icy bits, to South significantly drifted
and/or irregular snow accumulations. With Peak Gusting that could be
in the 45-55 KMPH range and Mountain Contour Swirl Factors, the
potentials are somewhat unpredictable.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

--------- Traffic and Weather Observations ----------

We are attaching random weather observations, as well
as some primary Lift Traffic Observations for the future
