1/21/16 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Late Eve. Edit @ 11:00 P.M.

Unfortunately it seems as though there was a glitch in Open Trail Data
this morning. When we Skied down to the North Base Via Beauchemin
to catch the Expo Quad, it became evident that lower Expo has had a
Groomed, Mid-Point Entrance descent path, and it was being Skied, but
equally evident that upper Expo was not open, so the “100%” we refer
to in our original post below is not quite accurate. Sorry about that...

Basically, with the lower portion Groomed, it may be a case of a two-stage
preparation that will see the upper portion Groomed either tonight or tomorrow
night(?), in order to have Expo fully Groomed and Open for the Weekend. There
have been seasons where the Big Bumps have been left in place, un-groomed
for the initial Opening, however that has not been done in we can’t remember
exactly how long ago, maybe 5 or 6 seasons.

Regardless, our point about the developed seasonal maturity of conditions
still holds. The fact that the “100%" may be off by a day or so is not critical
to the basic premise.

In the mean-time, all the Groomed Terrain that is Open is in largely the same
shape as yesterday with the exception that there is an ever-so-slightly,
not-quite-icy, but firm and/or slickness, periodically underfoot. This is not
widespread by any stretch, but we noticed it a couple of times when
there was a slight loss of traction momentarily in a few spots.

One of the best areas today was Alpine/Beauvallon Haut/Bas, Upper/Lower.
This terrain was a good example of the refined levels surface uniformity and
traction that we appreciate most, and on our descent line, it was close to flawless.

Despite a wee bit of “Firmness” in some surfaces, Tremblant’s Beautiful Groomed
Open Terrain is still at a grade of 90% or better and a joy to Ski.

Tomorrow’s Weather... Foggy??? Was supposed to be Sunny again, however
there’s a HUGE Winter Storm south of us on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and
we’re just guessing that’s what happened to the Sunny forecast if we’re
seeing the edge of that system?

-10 C and Moderate Nor-West winds coming up the Mountain over Beauvallon, Forecast.

Versant Nord, the North Side... 100% OPEN!

First Time For This Season!

What Having 100% Nord, North “Open" Means:

1) Achieving Benchmarks of Complete Sector Openings is a great sign of
Seasonal Maturity in overall conditions and if you’ve been following along,
you’ll be just as pleased as we are to see this happen.

2) Conditions Are:

This is the most recent File shot we have(Jan.18) of Dynamite’s entrance from the top of
Expo, as seen riding the Expo Quad overhead. This has been one of the zones that has
gotten a good share of the Natural Snow Drifting in the recent series of very snowy days.

Additionally, yesterday morning we wrote specifically about Expo:

“...This highly anticipated Sector of Versant Nord, the North Side,
is not too far off from Opening we would guess."

wow... that was quick....

But, then again, that’s what Tremblant Fans have come to expect from the
Great Mountain Op’s Team here, so not only have they “Delivered” on that account,
looking at the overall efforts of this team is exactly why they achieved...
“#1 Grooming Quality, Canada East", in the Ski Magazine Fall 2015 Reader Survey results.

Above:
We are including this yesterday “last Run”, very long Telephoto, taken of
the Expo/Cossak Peak’s, from the Duncan Quad, way down, near the Nord,
North Base. The reason we’ve selected this one is that Expo is showing
Not-Groomed, and with Snowmaking, so it should be very “Interesting” skiing!

There are Several Ways To Get On Top Of This Situation...
and this is one of the best options...

We’ve included this Soleil Quad to Summit View specifically because it is
an excellent way to get to the Summit quickly from the South Resort Base
when accessed by the Porte du Soleil fixed Quad Base at P-2 Parking Zone.
This is a “No Brainer” when Porte du Soleil is Open, only a handful of steps
from your car, only a handful of steps from the P-2 Warming Chalet/Washrooms,
and in all the years we’ve used it, never, not even once... have we ever seen a
line up there... even on the very busiest days of the season when there can be
considerable wait times at the most popular lifts like the Gondola. Even if you park
at P-3, you can get off the Bus at P-2, hop on the Porte du Soleil, Ski off to the
right side from the top, and it’s an easy skate/ski over to the Soleil High Speed
Quad Base. Practically speaking, it’s possible to be on the Summit this way quicker
than you can get through the lines at either the Cabriolet and/or the Gondola,
let alone go through both those lineups, plus ride to the top(we estimate this
trick can save as much as 35-40 minutes in comparative P-1-to-Summit transit times,
with lines on the very busiest of Holiday Weekends).

With yesterdays Sun and the West Wind at your back, riding up the Soleil Quad
was not only quick, but it was warm on your back too...
...not to mention the spectacular scenery.

Weather Notes:

Almost identical to yesterday with bright Sunshine, -8C South base level temp’s
and Westerly winds crossing the Summit from McCulloch towards Lowell Thomas,
with moderate speeds and potentially strong gusty periods.

Very Fine Winter Snow Conditions featuring super-chilled, dry, and very light
crystalline snow that packs very well and with almost zero internal humidity,
Skis very fast with almost no forward resistance.

We love these conditions for the pure winter snow that has not had any sort
of thermal stress, plus repeated daily Grooming refinement, for well over a week.

These are Primo High Performance Conditions that are also Excellent Learning
Surfaces for Beginners too.

Gradual Page assembly including Apres Ski, when possible due to logistical chores...
you shouldn’t be reading this anyway, you should either be on your way,
or already “On Top" of this...
