If we had to pick one pic to summarize the day it might be this one...

The reason we’d maybe pick this one is because it has a little of almost everything
you might encounter today. Groomed, Un-Groomed, Snowmaking, Light Traffic,
Good Grip, FAST!!! ... you can’t see it from here but some icy trail centres, Soft,
loose snow trail edges, etc., etc.

All in all, a Fine Winter Day that favoured those with tuned equipment and solid
fundamental Skills Applied within their actual Rated Terrain Level.

Look Forward to Warming Way Up This Week... not over 0 C though, just warm
enough to keep all of Winter, but at a pleasant temp easy to dress for.

Looking forward to “Snow” in the forecast this week coming too!

(Weather Notes Below)

Conditions Notes:

In last nights Apres Ski we wrote:

"Traction was at High Levels to begin with, and they were still at high levels at Last Run.”

We think that will be a 100% Repeat for today, maybe even more-so, because
on Sunday Afternoon’s, for some reason it seems people would much rather
sit in their vehicles, in lineups back to the “City”, instead of Skiing/Boarding,
so typically, the Sunday Afternoon Mountain Traffic declines sharply after lunch
leaving the smart people who stay, to enjoy more slopes with less people
and subsequently, less Open Trail wear.

This does not happen every Sunday, but it does happen on enough Sundays
to form a recognizable pattern in the majority. So, the probability is high that
if you can stay ’til “Last Run” today... you’ll be rewarded with Very Fine, All Day
Conditions.

2 Carry-Over's From Yesterday, Applicable Today... as far as we know...

1) Specifically Referencing Groomed Terrain:

The majority of Groomed Terrain is in very fine condition. Recent and abundant
natural snowfall has added to the pre-existing base, which for the most part has
very good layers of soft, carve-able loose surfaces over a very solid core. There
are some areas where Traffic Concentrations, or Crests, or Steeper Pitches can
have slick or icy bits, so care with reduced speed on initial explorations is essential.

2) Experts Only, Un-Groomed Terrain:

On the Un-Groomed, Natural Hazards are part of the make-up of that terrain
and they can be encountered unpredictably because some of them are not
visible from above. Absolute Speed and Braking Control is even more important
for any initial or subsequent Un-Groomed Experts only Trails. Do not assume
things will be the same from run to run as with traffic the patterns can change
quickly.

Taking some very basic precautions in the Un-Groomed can make for a very fun
and challenging experience that won’t harm you or your gear. All it takes is a little
care and common sense.

SAMPLE NEW OPEN TERRAIN:

Versant Nord, North Side, “Expo” Open, Top-To-Bottom!

Expo has it’s own very loyal fans and they’ve been waiting for this Tremblant
Marquee Descent to be Open for Months. The “Expo” Season has finally Arrived!

Expo Big Bump Theory:

If you are a legitimate Expert, here’s our Theory on how to Ski Expo’s Big Bumps:

Maximum Edge Sharpness Gets You Maximum Edge Hold,
Gets You All The Traction You Need To Ski Expo.

The Pic. Above is certainly far from perfect. It was shot while riding up the moving
Expo Quad with a long Telephoto as the sun was just going down and at the precise
moment the last Rays were parallel to Expo’s Upper Pitch for this interesting backlit
view of the Skiers Snow Spray on the down-side of a Big Bump.

The Focus is a wee bit off, the Contrast a bit to difficult for camera’s Auto settings,
the Telephoto is a bit Grainy, but any legitimate Expert is immediately going to see,
recognize and appreciate that there is not one ounce, not a gram, not a speck,
not even a hint... of any Icy in this pic what-so-ever. The Snow Spray off the Skis
is Pure Snow, made by Mountain Crews at Tremblant, and a fine, dry and light Snow
as well.

Eventually, we are not privy to exactly when(could be today, or any day coming up
in near future), it will be Groomed, and when it is, it will become one of the most
popular single Trails in the entire Laurentian Area you can Ski/Board on.

In it’s “As Opened” big bump format, Expo Haut, Upper’s Snow has a very soft
crust about 7 or 8 cm’s thick that is strong enough to ride over and shred up
as shown in the pic., but it can also be broken up by landing on it from any
jump-off point in the contours above without fear of it tripping you up because
of it’s lightness and the fact that it breaks up into dry, dusty particles that don’t
seem to have any resistance.

Given the challenging Light conditions of the Last Run Shadow, this POV below,
on the Trail itself, shows the surface composition with some of the Bump Crust
visible in the foreground. There was no “Solid” in any of the crust, at all.
You could poke it with a Ski Pole, and either punch through it with light
force, or break up any of it into very fine Snow Dust.

The Upper Expo Pitch has a Double Black Diamond Trail Difficulty Rating
for a good reason. It is one of those runs that looks almost easy in some
lights as viewed riding up the Expo Quad, however, once on it, you realize...
Whoa... this is “Steep” and what seemed easy looking from the Chair Lift
now feels like you’re standing on the side of a wall.

“For Best Results”... Expo always wants technically complete turns, with sharp edges.

Moving on to ... "Work In Progress...”

Mountain Crews continue to work at “Filling in the Blanks”, i.e., adding snowmaking
in strategic places to optimize access to Open Terrain.

Generally, all Skill Levels have considerable variety within the Groomed Open
Terrain. There are very few glitches, but they can and do exist, on some rare
occasions, unpredictably, so responsible Skiers/Boarders will be checking things
out with all due precaution on initial explorations.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
