3/25/16 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Edit @ 12:30 P.M.

There were two factors we liked about Today that we theorize may
hopefully make a positive difference for Saturday and Sunday...

1) The ambient Air Temp’s at South Resort Base were 3 degrees COOLER
than Forecast, so daytime high reached Zero C, instead of a +3 C high.

2) It was largely Overcast. Any time temps are close to zero, Solar Energy is
NOT what any Ski Resort Snow Surfaces need, if you want to keep it “Snow”.

We think both these factors, plus the Overnight Sub-Zero’s, may contribute to a
more sustained Winter Coverage and Ski/Board Performance Quality for Saturday
and Sunday. Every Great Day Counts!

Todays Apres Ski Includes This Tomorrow.Draft Weather Graphic For Weekend.

PLEASE NOTE: Temps indicated below are in Degrees Celsius, so for our American Cousins,
Zero Degrees C Equals 32 Degrees F @ the Freezing Mark.

Significant But Temporary Freezing Rain Effects Over
A Technically, Fundamentally, Solidly, Well Established,
Full Winter Level Coverage Base.

Wow... that’s quite a mouthful, but it is a complex situation for any Ski Resort
faced with this set of Mother Natures Omnipotent Forces, so our opening Conditions
Statement has to reflect the “Net Result” and we think the above is quite accurate.

In the Mean-time, relating to the "Technically, Fundamentally, Solidly, Well Established,
Full Winter Level Coverage Base”, referred to above, we can tell you for a fact that
it’s “Thumbs Up”(see below) on both the survival and the prognosis for complete continuity
of the Base and the great Surface’s that will be back in full “Spring” Mode, starting
now and over the next couple of days.

The Thumbs Up in the pic. above was totally unsolicited. We do not know the person,
we did not set it up, and the person Skied into our frame. The Hand Gesture is
completely spontaneous on their part, but we are eternally grateful, though they
may never know it... Conditions with this sector yesterday were Seamless, Smooth,
Swift, and arguably in the “Best Of Season” category so we agree with our own
Thumbs Up!

The last few days of “Winter.Version 2.0” was Short, Very, Very Sweet and definitely
contained some “Seasons Best” Groomed Carving Surfaces as well as Excellent
Parc Conditions.

What Is Important... None Of The Snow That Came Yesterday Has Gone Anywhere.

It is still all there, were the wind allowed accumulations, and albeit covered by a crust
of Freezing Rain... BUT...

Freezing Rain is not typically destructive to any pre-existing Base as it is “Ice”, i.e., “Solid”
and “Solid” is way, way better than “Liquid”, because “Solid” can be broken up through
Grooming Processes into Crystalline Particles with very fine “Snow-like” Skiing/Boarding
performance qualities.

When Tremblant Mountain Op’s has a Full Nightshift to grind up and integrate
the crust with the underlaying snow, the Base May Actually Come Out Better
Than Before... especially when there is “Spring” and Sun and “+” above Zero
daytime temps forecasted, because all Crystalline sources, i.e., “Ice Crust”
and “Snow” should become Blended.

All Tremblant Fans In Attendance Need To Be Patient While A Day
Of Restoration Takes Place.

Additionally, even on a day such as today, there will be Sweet Spots
of Good to Very Fine, Skiing/Boarding within the Open Terrain.

Weather Notes:

It got down to -5C at South Resort Base Level last night and today’s
forecasted high is +3 C. Winds light to moderate East-Nor-East, so crossing
the Summit from P’tit Bonheur towards Soleil.

It’s March 25th... Typical Daily -/+ Spring Temp. Cycles Apply.

In The “Big Picture”...

This Entire Weather Situation Is The Consequence Of A “Colorado Low” System
that has affected the whole North Eastern Portion of North America.
Thankfully, Tremblant is on the North Latitudinal Sector which continues
to be an important asset in terms of experiencing far less Thermal damage
than more Southern Regional Areas.

As of the time of this writing, as an example of Regional Impact(as the
storm system progressed from West to East), there are approximately
100,000 People in Southern Ontario without Hydro/Electricity.

It Is What It Is... A Temporary Situation.

For those already “Booked” for today...
Cautious exploration will reveal “Sweet Spots” of Open,
Groomed Trails and/or Sectors.
