4(*) Open Trails on Opening Day for 2016/17 Winter Snow Sports Season
at #Tremblant.

If there was such a thing as a “Skiers Dictionary”, you might look up “Anticipation”,
where you’d find the Definition: “Opening Day at any Winter Ski/Board Area.”

For about the last 6 weeks, enthusiastic Ski/Board Fans have been hanging on
every word they can find about the upcoming winter and what to expect for
that first ride up the lift and those first turns on those first runs.

How much snow is there? How many Runs are Open, How’s the Snowmaking?
How’s the Grooming? How quickly are more trails opening? What kind of day is it
going to be? Where is my Base Layer? Where did I put that Edge File... I know I set
it somewhere where it would be handy? I don’t remember bending that Ski pole?
Did Someone See My Other Glove?

All part of those “First Day” goings-on, and...

...For those Passionate Winter Alpine Snow Sports Fans in attendance today,
it would be hard to imagine any other single day on the calendar that could
be more eagerly waited for.

Tremblant Shares:

11.23.16 - Grooming in a fabulous blend of very recent Natural, plus about a
month’s worth of Snowmaking on Tremblant’s Versant Nord, North Side, “Goto”,
Trail of the Decade... P’tit Bonheur.

A lot of the anticipation for today has been generated by the various forms
of media publications that all the very Keen Ski/Board fans have been so
intently studying. Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., etc. have all
been fully engaged in the minds of those true-blue, dedicated Alpine Snow
Sports Fans, and every single shred of information has been savoured with
expectations of as much of this as is possible...

Today, and for about the next 5 Months... we get to say...

Lets Go Skiing at Tremblant...
Lets go Boarding at Tremblant...

No more waiting... No more dreaming... Get Up and Go!

One of the first things we do before gearing up...

Reality Check...

The Summit Web Cam:

For any Opening Day, this is a HUGELY Re-assuring sight this morning...

Snow, Snow, Snow and some more Snow!

The Summit Web Cam has been relocated to a position
close to the Off-load Zone of the TGV Quad. It now looks out
across to the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair Off-load Zone and the
Summit Level Entrance to “Rope Tow”.

Weather Notes:

We will not have to do as much on weather stat’s because the basic
data in now very nicely included in the Official Data we archive, but
there’s still room, there’s always room... to talk about the weather.
We’d call today, so far, sort of a “Bright Overcast”. There is the possibility
of some sun, but that does not really look likely at this early stage.
With the South Base temps just under Zero C, that’s fine with us,
solar energy is not what new season snow needs, so we’re quite content
with the grey. We like Low Wind Speeds and that’s another positive
factor here today... so far.

T360, Nov.24, 2016 Opening Day Apres Ski @ 8:16 P.M....

The day was characterized by an accumulation of natural snow over a
very well prepared base.

Mild, Sub-zero C preserved all the pre-existing natural and blown, and
with the newly falling, the cushion of very carve-able top layers facilitated
good speed with an equal measure of control.

It Was Fun To Go Fast At Tremblant Today...

This morning started off with only P’tit Bonheur and even though it was
well groomed, the concentration of traffic did require a careful control of
speed as all skill levels were sharing the same space, and some of the
new Skiers/Boarders were occasionally making abrupt moves. The somewhat
unpredictable direction changes may have been slightly amplified by the
snowfall in places like the top, entrance pitch of P’tit Bonheur where surface
thickness began to generate some moguls and uneven depths that made
for challenges.

Common sense applied and Experts seemed quite responsible about
restricting velocity to zones where there were gaps in the traffic where
it was safer to dial up the action.

Beauvallon and the TGV opened up at about 1:00P.M. and almost instantly,
the traffic congestion thinned way out, as virtually doubling the Open Acreage
to the steeper sections of Beauvallon/Alpine immediately attracted the experts
who were eager to explore as much as possible.

We don’t have any Versant Sud, Beauvallon pic’s as it was impossible to keep
whirling snow out of the camera lens and control buttons for the time we had
there. We can tell you that Beauvallon was a wee bit icy with some large diameter
chunky bits, but that began to even out as the afternoon passed and repeated
Ski/Board Traffic was certainly helping to break down this newly groomed
and opened area.

The ride up the TGV Quad was a bit on the breezy side, but as the scenery
unfolded on the way up the spectacular beauty of it all soon distracted you.

On the way to down La Crete, the background of all Wonderful White was
an instant Winter immersion experience and regardless of Sud, South

There is a meaningful amount of snow coming down and while it
may not be enough to open up much more quite yet, when the time
comes it will probably take far less Snowmaking in a lot of sectors
where it can endure any temperature burps between now and
the big Children’s Charity event on the weekend of Dec. 9, 2016.

As you can tell by now, for the most part, long distance panoramas were
impractical, but what makes photography difficult often makes the Skiing
better and that was definitely the case today. Almost every run towards
the end of day was seeing a noticeable amount of snow. It wasn’t necessarily
easier because of it, due to some traffic generated bumps, but you could tell
that with overnight grooming, there may be some impressive First Tracks
performance out there in the morning.

We also suspect that the initial enthusiasm of Opening Day may be somewhat
tempered tomorrow by sore muscles that are screaming with protest after being
whipped up to “Max”, after a long summer layoff.

Thumbs Up...

When you stand Trail-Side Pic-Framing for any length of time, you occasionally
get “Thumbs Up” approvals from those passing by. This is one of them and
of course, we have to agree...

Opening Day At Tremblant for Nov. 24, 2016, definitely Thumbs Up”!!!

More in morning, but Day 2 should see substantial refinement in
smoothness everywhere and reduction in Beauvallon’s initial chunky bits.
