Wow... TTtthhhattt Wwwwass rrrrrRReally FFFFffffffrreeeekin’ KKkkkkkoool!

It was one of those days where you could see the “Cool” in the air. It looks
like a suspended atmosphere, a very slight haze, almost intangible, but visible
non-the-less.

Clinically fine Skiing with perhaps an initially higher friction rate because
there’s less glide in super-cool snow. Less in the way of slick or icy bits
on the North, however due to the Kool, duncan was off-line with Expo Quad
and Lowell T getting folks back to the Summit.

By February, we’ll all be more used to these occasional dips in the temps(which
by the way, are not always this cool, even in mid-winter), and it won’t seem
half so dramatic as it does for the first time in the New Season.

Oh well, at least it was short...

By 09:00 A.M., Tomorrow(Saturday) Morning, the Temps are forecasted to be
20 Degrees Celsius WARMER than they were at 07:00 A.M. this morning!

A HUGE improvement in “User Friendly”... No Doubt!

In the meantime A)... it was just one of those crisp, clear, sunny, Cold Snap days
that was part of a system that covered half of Eastern North America.

In the meantime B)...

We also think there could be several potential New Trail Openings
over the weekend, so we may see a nice little upward “Pop” in the Open Trail Numbers?

Keeping “Fingers Crossed” for good luck on that!

Very Cool Temp’s And Very “Cool” Skiing/Board Performance on
Rapidly Expanding Open Terrain that has basically DOUBLED in 5 days!

(Archive File Shots Above, Below, from 3 days ago, 12/13/16)

One of the most scenic places on Planet Earth, Andy Moe is not a huge expanse
of Skiable Terrain, but it is Quietly, almost Intimately, Breathtakingly Beautiful.
If you’ve never been to Tremblant, but we set you down in the middle of this
Gorgeous spot, you’d be amazed by the overwhelming beauty that only Mother
Nature can create. We take New-To-Tremblant Guests on to this Trail when touring
and frequently they will stand in it’s entrance, momentarily speechless, surrounded
by it’s White Winter embrace. Scenery no camera can do justice to, but scenery
you will never forget.

In practical terms, what the Opening of Andy Moe(and Axle, the Line-Extension crossing
Upper Beauchemin), really means is the significance of the accumulations of all natural
snow that are deep enough to permit safe Trail Openings. Though they be “Small”,
Andy Moe and Axle are Beautiful, Very Healthy, and Sweetly Singing, “Canaries In
The Coal Mine”!

On the Technical Side Today...

First, -31C Overnight Low definitely qualifies as “Nippy” in our books...
(and it should rise up to about -17C this afternoon.)

BUT Secondly... There are Big Bonus’s in both Todays, and Seasonal conditions
that come attached, so we welcome these Super Cool days for the advantages.

While not yet on the Open List, this shot below from yesterday of “Kandahar”, shows
what we call the initial “Rough Cut” Grooming Operation that breaks up the
Snowmaking and generates a Near-Flat primary surface. The way we understand it,
this course finish allows aeration to occur, drying out latent moisture until Crews
are ready to do the final Finishing Grooming with the High Speed Tillers that
give us the very fine, small Snow Crystals in the fresh Corduroy of the morning
it Opens. Super Cool always seems to result in a more natural-like Snow in the
final Grooming process, and anyone that’s been following along here over recent
days is aware of the excellent results of this process that we’ve experienced here
this week with possibly, the Best Ever Opening of Duncan.

Why It's Critically Important To Have Very Cool Days...

We like to call it “Thermal Momentum”. Basically, Tremblant is a really big conical object,
and when Mother Nature chills this huge object sufficiently, the Mass of the Mountain’s
Core Temperature gets lowered. So, even if there are Seasonally Normal “Thaw” periods,
the ambient cold core temp acts as a surface refrigerant from the inside, out. The more
Frost that gets put deeper into the Mountain, the more this internal stabilizing effect
becomes a durable reserve force to offset any exterior Atmospheric warmth cycles.
Technically, that could apply to any warmth cycle from individual, normal, Winter Thaw
events of one or more days, all the way up to “Spring”, the ultimate warmth cycle.

We All Get To Ski Longer, And With “Every-Day" Better, More Stable
Conditions, When The Mountain Is Well Chilled.

Weather Notes:

T360 COLD WEATHER ADVISORY:

It’s the first real Cold Snap of the Season and @ -31C, when you step
outside and get that first breath, you’ll know about it. The Kind Of Kool
that makes your nose tingle... It is supposed to warm up to around -17C,
and with the Sun out, believe it or not, you will be able to feel solar energy
in any sunny, wind sheltered area.

Moderate Winds are from the Sou-West, but there may be times of gusty
much higher speeds. Attention to proper outer layer fastenings and overlaps
will be critical for comfort and safety. This is when Frostbite can nail exposed
skin in less than 2 minutes if you’re descending at 25 KMPH against a 20 KMPH
Headwind.

Do Not Be Afraid, Be Careful... Clinically Speaking, the Skiing is superb.

The Cold will probably keep some people curled up in front of the Fireplace today,
but for those who appreciate the performance that only comes with these temps,
the Skiing and Boarding are going to be really “Cool”!

We LOVE our “Squeaky” Cool Snow! Nothing Else Performs As Well.
