T360 Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 10:13 P.M.

It turned out to be a grey, overcast, damp, foggy,
dreary looking day that most people might have
passed on for purely cosmetic reasons,

however...

There was one very favourable characteristic
we’re going to look at first...

Excellent Super High Performance Skiing!!!

Fast Phenomenal Fun!

If you think this looks “Fast”, that’s because it is Fast!

The world around you turns into a blur with speed-days like today!

Very, very fortunately, grey winter days that aren’t so good for
photography are mostly great days for skiing. Today was a
glimpse into the future of fast winter performance we’re looking
forward to for the next several months. It was one of those days
that wears a grey cloak of cloud, but yields super-fast, super-smooth
trail surface snow that has low friction and great lateral grip, just
right for ripping up big, big, training vertical.

Your Speed, Your Style.

Today was a day for technique artistry.

Today reminds you that Local Tremblant Skiers display the kind of
Expert technique that makes the sport look graceful and easy.

Not hard to understand when there are so many acres and
kilometres to practice on. It is our express opinion, one we’ve
written about many, many times, the unique terrain of Tremblant
makes you a better skier. There is an almost liquid-like flow to the
topography here, and it draws out your innate sense of rhythm as
you respond to the natural shapes in the Tremblant trail descent paths
that are near ideal fall lines.

It was one of those “Fly Under The Radar” days with a plain
wrapper concealing a wonderful gift.

No doubt, the cloud cover blanketed the Summit, but because
the temps were floating around Zero C, and calm winds, it was
actually a very pleasant, easy day of relative warmth. Not a speck
of rain.

This below might not look like much, but it’s a significant
terrain development marker, the snowmaking construction
of Beauchemin Haut, Upper, is being planned and laid out.
The Snow Guns are in place, waiting for the necessary
temp’s to flip the switch. It is just one sample of many
similar development zones.

For tomorrow... a warm one, up to +5(?) or so and yuck... rain
indicated between 5:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M., just cloud after
that. Skiing will be great though, pure “Spring” and go-anywhere
versatility. One ray of hope is that the forecast has been wrong
as recently as last night, maybe it will be wrong again, but on
the “Dry” side? Fingers crossed for luck on that one...

Inspired By Kidz...

We have said it many times... We’re inspired by the kids we see
in the race programs at Tremblant because we feel they represent
the essence of learning and adapting efficiency.

A Short Editorial On Inspirational Learning
For Beginners And Intermediates.

Kids learn and adapt primarily by feel, as opposed to adults that
prioritize learning by intellect. There is a huge difference in outcomes
that we think most adult learners miss, and that’s the reason for the
inspiration because adult learners have the very same capacity to learn
by feel, if they would stop thinking about an instructional process so much,
stick to Easy Terrain, and just attempt to learn like a kid again. In this case,
the element that this young person pictured above is “feeling", is “Dynamic
Balance”. Look at the picture closely again and what we’d want you to see is
the near-perfect offset of all the gravitational, centrifugal, and frictional
forces being physically exerted on the Skier, by an obvious reach for natural
balance in the forward leaning, low, compact, very well centred, hands up
and forward, athletic posture.

This is demonstrating total control in a high speed dynamic where instantaneous
adjustment and micro-adaptative reflex sensitivity is automatically compensating
for any disruptive force, like “Icy”, or “Steep”, or “Thick Snow”, or “Thin Snow”,
or “Low Friction”, or “High Friction”... without a lot of complicated thinking,
and with a whole big bunch of natural feeling for simply maintaining balance
within this forward reaching, posture platform.

Practice Makes Perfect...
Have the patience to practice and “Grow On The Green’s"

These Race Kids can Out-Ski 97% of the recreational Skiers on any
Double-Black Diamond run at Tremblant, but where do you find them
practicing Skill-Drills today? The Tremblant “Green” Super-Star, Trail
# 72, “Ptit Bonheur”. If it’s good enough for them, it’s surely good
enough for you.

If you feel in balance, you are in balance, the trick is to discover how
to let your automatic system reach forward to find balance, get comfortable
with it, let it work, and then trust it to react, without letting fear or complex
intellectual instructional models clutter up or over-ride your natural sense
of balance. You do that with repetitive practice and drills like this pic. above.

If Babies learned how to walk like most Adults try to learn Skiing, they’d never
get off the ground, it’s just way too complex. The starting point for all of this is
“Grow On The Greens”. Build all your skills on Easy Terrain, avoid difficult terrain
at all costs until everything you do with practice becomes balanced, reflexive,
and easy without thinking, simply by feel.

Weather Notes:

It was supposed to snow hard for 12 hours by the forecast yesterday,
instead what we got was 12 whole snowflakes on the top of the car
this morning, so clearly, the Humans were not in touch with Mother
Nature on that call. Fortunately, for those lucky enough to be here,
it’s “Weekdays”, so the trails will just not have the weekend traffic
stress. The temps are easy, and the winds are low, so this is a
really user-friendly early season day here at Tremblant.

Then, There’s This:

If you’re driving to Tremblant this week, you’ll need to either leave
a lot earlier to get here on time, or let them know you’re going to
be Storm-delayed late, if this system moves in as forecast.

Conditions Notes:

The majority of trail surfaces are smooth and wide. There are some
left-over icy bits, but with todays weekday light traffic, we’re hoping
the grooming holds up all day. We’ll let you know on that.

It’s been a total joy to be able to do Summit-to-Base, lap after lap.

This is a fantastic way to get some muscle activation and aerobic
endurance endurance capacity built up with a relaxed pace, working
all the joints and ligaments under easy load. Cruising through the iconic
Tremblant scenery with such a surprising level of “Winter” in late Fall
is a real privilege and our thanks go out to Mountain Crews for a
fantastic job on getting so much prepared.

As exceptional as it is for this date, there are some natural hazards
just because there’s not the depth in the base yet. One example was
a small rocky outcropping in the middle of the first pitch on Beauvallon
Bas, Lower. We were there trying to get some action shots, and most
people were able to see it in time to navigate around, but some that
were going too fast could not make the sudden course correction and
there were loud scraping sounds, even sparks in one case, as contact
was made.

This speaks to our point about using reduced speed on initial descents
in order to verify safe passage. It still applies. You need to keep speed
down while exploring new trails, or if you haven’t been on them for hours.
This is only the 4th day of the new season and care is required if you want
to avoid ski/board base possibilities for damage. This is not the third week
of January and you need to use speed proportional to direct Line-of-sight
navigation.

There are tons of great speed zones, you just have to be responsible in
finding and using them.

You Can Enjoy A Nice Day In The Park, Tremblant Style!!!

Limited early season open terrain is the perfect time and place
to work on fundamental Skiing skills for the winter ahead with
the kind of repetitive basic training that can turn you into an Expert.

Race Teams from all over the region flock to Tremblant now because
comparatively, there’s huge space and vertical to work with. You can
have exactly the same advantages for your own Skiing improvement
program, all you need to do is get here.
