Winter Temps, Winter Scenes, Winter Feel, ...
It must be Winter!
Our open trail count remains at 6 this morning and we feel
that conditions today will be a refinement of yesterdays with
improvements that come with grooming fresh snow the day
after a big storm.
The Weather this morning is definitely Winter with a brisk -13C
at base level and a Summit temp of -14C under clearing skies
that are expected to be mostly sunny all day. Its going to be a
great day for taking Pictures, classic winter scenes of snow laden
trees at the summit look like post card shots, very beautiful,
indeed. The wind is Westerly, or coming up the Mountain from
the Beauvallon Sector, so riding up the Lowell Thomas Chair today,
you should find yourself in the lee of the wind until approaching
the summit. The wind speed is forecasted to be between 20 to
30 km which means you are going to need to bundle up and seal
off any air gaps around your face and wrists in order to preserve heat.
There are many advantages to "The Day After", when it comes to
grooming an Alpine surface, the end result being that the additional
compression of skiers and boarders over the day, plus the mechanical
action of the grooming equipment produces a wonderfully dense
surface with "Grip" and no "Slip". Today will be excellent for carving
on these "Day After" surfaces.
A word of caution is appropriate here though, because there are
some slick portions underfoot, particularly on the steepest pitch of
La Traverse that need to be taken at reduced speeds in order to
maintain proper control. In the interest of safety, you should
definitely use caution with speed in all areas until you are familiar
with where the grip is, so take a few runs to check things out before
you go ripping around.
For all the park fans, the park features open at the bottom
of La Traverse have some of the best snow on the Mountain. this area has
been in the shelter of the little valley it sits in and the snow there is a
very soft forgiving surface that has plenty of grip and yet is a great
cushion for landing all the tricks you've got. Here's a link to our latest
video with lots of Park detail: http://tinyurl.com/ybu3fkz
We are happy to report that preparations for "Top to Bottom" of the
North Side continue. The Pic's below clearly show that a track is well
underway right over to the Duncan chair. We're not sure when this
will come on-line, but the possibility of this weekend is not out of
the question, so we'll just have to wait and see. Certainly with the
traffic of the 24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser, it would make
sense to have the North Side open to take the pressure off, but only
time will tell, so stay tuned for further details.

BACKGROUND INFO FROM OFFICIAL WEBSITE:
Swiss Beginnings...
In 1998, Jacques Villeneuve and Craig Pollock founded a non-profit
association called Formula Charity. Their mission was to create events
to raise money for childhood illnesses. Shortly after the creation of
Formula Charity, the association hosted a large-scale annual event
in Switzerland, the 24h de Villars, to raise money for a charitable
cause in the host region.
When the Grand Prix 24h de Villars comes to town, a festive atmosphere
pervades the mountain and village, and Villars-sur-Ollon becomes THE
place to be in Switzerland. At this grand event, celebrities from the
Formula 1 circuit mingle with the business community, as well as with
sports, music and fashion celebrities, to raise money for sick children.
The Event Comes to Tremblant!
In December 2001, Formula Charity introduced the event to Québec,
hosting the first edition of the 24h de Tremblant. The Canadian event
was a major success, thanks in part to the European experience, and
its future looks extremely promising.
The 24h de Tremblant is THE social rendezvous of the year, where the
general public, business people, media reps, and artists and celebrities
congregate to raise money for childhood diseases. The 24h de Tremblant
is a festive celebration that brings together philanthropists and sport enthusiasts.
This charitable event is now an annual tradition in Québec and the 7th
annual North American edition will be run on the slopes of Tremblant
December 11 to 13, 2009. Mr. Pierre Rodrigue (President Astral Media Radio)
will assume the Presidency.
The 24h de Tremblant is proud to support various children’s causes.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Fondation Centre de cancérologie
Charles-Bruneau, their mission is to increase the odds of finding a
cure for children with cancer by providing financial assistance for the
creation, maintenance and development of the Centre de cancérologie
pédiatrique Charles-Bruneau.
From the outset, this event has also raised funds for Fondation Tremblant
to help under-privileged children in the Mont-Tremblant region. This year,
we are pleased to announce that the Ottawa Senators Foundation will be
implied, again. It supports programs designed to improve the quality of
life for underprivileged children and youth, is also associated with the event.
The 24h de Tremblant is the most highly anticipated event of the winter!
