No Questions... Awesome Views And More Snow On The Horizon!

No doubts, no questions, it’s been a cooler than average month.
However... there’s also no doubts or questions about exceptional
trail qualities and snowfall accumulations either, so in the unique
fingerprint of January’s, we’re ecstatic to have a genuine, authentic
truly “Winter” month that is certainly going to add a huge measure
of durability and quality to every future day of this season because
of its contribution to the base foundation.

Weather Notes:
Consider the literal implications of the “Polar Vortex”,
in-so-far-as the “Vortex” being a swirling action where
the outboard edge of the swirl is not always an even
line. What we think you’re seeing in the long range
outlook is the first signs of a retreating edge of the
vortex action for next weeks forecasted rise in temps
along with an overall rising trend that is indicated for
February. Thankfully, the polar vortex can not last forever,
so now that we have endured all the consequences of its
presence, we finally are seeing the potential to enjoy its
benefits, but within a kinder, gentler, forecast temp range.

Conditions Notes:
Glorious, Wonderful, Snow White Winter.
Without so much as one second of “January Thaw”
the base quality has been reinforced by daily
injections of both cold and more snow for weeks
on end. It’s been a challenge to dress for, but from
a clinical point of view, the skiing is always fantastic
with “Squeaky” cold snow and today is going to carry
all of that forward, but with an upward rising temp
into a more comfortable range, plus the added bonus
of another layer of fresh.
Both temperatures and conditions are going to be easy.
Versant Sud/South Side Nansen has been only one example
of near-flawless conditions throughout the recent cold spell
and we forecast nothing but better for this and all similar
Green rated terrain.

In the groomed array an additional night shift of compaction
should result in the all-day smoothness and forgiveness that
has been typical of every recent day. Combined with the rise
in the temps, it’s just going to make the whole package seem
joyful for everyone who’s either been here all along, or arriving
for their first day today.
In the Sous/Bois and Hors Piste group, continued very fine
conditions for what is still early in the mid-season time
period, but obviously with the snowfall outlook, planners
can anticipate even more potential in the near-term.

In the Un-groomed, there are Experts only challenges
in all the mogul icon’d listed trails. There are some natural
hazards in the mogul trough’s and across the traversed
centres in some places, but for the most part there are
softer outboard trail edges.
Consequently, it is still a very useful skill to be able to
reduce descent speed, and execute rapid, short radius
parallel or skidded turns within a tight line if you want
to take advantage of the soft snow on the sides(as shown
above), to navigate safely through these zones.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
