T360 Early Evening Apres Ski Very Quick, One Pic Edit @ 7:19 P.M.
It snowed, and it snowed, then it snowed some more.
It was snow foggy, you could not hardly see 15/20 metres
in front at some points, however, once again we managed
to call the potential for all snow, all day, so we were thrilled
to find ourselves in conditions that had periodic blizzard-like
snowfall intensity.
Consequently it was very, very challenging for photography
and due to low contrast, dull grey ambient light and billions
of snow filters, our loss rate was about 80%, but we would
never complain about too much snow for pictures when you
know what an extraordinary contribution this will make to
trail surfaces. As you may already suspect by the air temp at
up to +4 C, while we’re lucky it was totally snow, it had a
fairly high degree of humidity, so it makes excellent hand
pressed snowballs, consequently it is going to make an
excellent addition to the machine groomed base.
We will have to spend a few hours this evening trying to
cook pictures into recognizable condition for tomorrow
morning, but there is one we’ll use now that really was a
freak opportunity, about a 90 second gap in the snow
squall activity that allowed us to capture this glimpse
into the character of Tremblant at the end of the day...

Now then, as a clever, intelligent, experienced Ski enthusiast, we’re sure
you can look at that pic and pretty much figure out what it means for conditions...
You should go if you can...

It’s hard to describe. Adjectives are way over-used and
in a world of marketing hype it often seems like “white noise”
when promoters of this, that, and almost anything are all
competing for attention. For Skiers and Boarders all we can
hope for is the effective conveyance of what it means to
be so close to the optimized peak of seasonal maturity that
only comes when there’s over 3 metres of recorded natural
snowfall in the base.

Weather Notes:
For today, at least to begin with, there are a number
of confusing elements, not the least of which is the
indication of “sunny” in the instant data block below,
when it’s actually, physically, “snowing”. Secondly,
there are rainy bits in the early hour icons, but again,
it is only snowing, so-far.
The snow that’s falling right now is a very fine, as in
small, almost dusty-like dry particle which tells us
that it is being formed in higher atmospheric strata
that must be at a considerably cooler temp. It is actually
making visible accumulations on the ground with an
ambient +2 C showing on the digital outdoor temp
sensor??? That can only mean it’s coming from a very
cold place.
The reason we think this is all going to work out with
a more “winter-like” bias is the overnight trend. Please
note this annotated 2:02 A.M. weather observation.
“if...” the overnight trend of a way cooler upper atmospheric
influence persists, we think the overall net result could remain
on the winter side of things all day.
If we’re right on this, what may end up happening is a
“Thermal Sandwich” where you have a super chilled
base, with a super chilled upper atmosphere and the
nice ’n easy warm trail network, supported by both,
in the middle.
One thing’s for sure, no matter what happens on the ground
here, it’s way easy WARM, so at least for a little while we can
relax without being froze to the core.
Conditions Notes:
Regardless of the possible tipping points that exist on an
atmospheric basis with +1C or +2C temp's at base levels,
every picture in this post from yesterday is the principle
ingredient in todays groomed quality. The biggest reason
for that is the level of frost in the trail surface substrates that
is essentially unchanged from over a month of -20’s/-30’sC
overnight cold that is fully retained within every square inch
of the Mountain footprint.
So, it may feel rather “Spring-Like” at points today, but
we are forecasting it’s going to ski and board very much
“Winter-Like” because a degree or two over Zero C will
not be able to touch that cold stored refrigerant in the
base for multiple weeks, let alone a day or two.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed, there continues
to be significant Experts only challenge. Natural hazards exist,
as hand-sign posted by the Ski Patrol, and can not be seen until
you are nearly on top of them because the mogul cuts are so deep
the nasty bits are not visible from above. Some examples like
Nord/North trail # 62, Saute-Moutons were groomed last week
which instantly made them safer and more accessible, and there
may be others like the # 64 MCA sample below that could be included
in the ultimate/final round of typical grooming refinements. Watch for
these, as if they get groomed, they immediately become useable by a
X10 wider spectrum of skill levels, including confident Intermediates,
plus... the scenery in these descent zones is of spectacular “Post Cards
To Home” calibre.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
