It would be difficult to imagine a more ideal combination
of typical spring weather with winter-like coverages. For
sure there are receding high spots on the lowest portions
of the Sud/South base levels, but for any mid-April the
degree of wall-to-wall widths in virtually all open, groomed
terrain is fantastic.
When you look at this one below, besides the absolutely
wonderful trail surfaces, just take a peek at the very evident
trail-side coverage in the bush. This level of residual snowpack
would certainly be common to March, but for it to be here to
this degree of fulness in mid-April is genuinely remarkable.

Weather Notes:
The Summit web cam is not functional this morning so
we can not tell you what the temp is up top, but what
we can tell you is that at roughly the same elevation as
the Sud/South Flying Mile Sector, in the adjacent Old
Village of Mt. T, there is a skim of ice in the puddles of
the hill-side contours. Normally we’d say the typical
-4C of cooler Mountain elevations would put the Summit
at -3C, but we’ve had a lot of temperature inversions
recently, not to mention, quickly rising morning temps
into “+” plus range, well above Zero C’s, so any firmness
that might be there for first run may not last for more
a few minutes. We could be wrong on that if temp’s
hold cool for extended time at elevations.

Whooo Hooo... We were right on this Summit -3, Sub-Zero call
and in our opinion it will be a fundamental element for all-day
conditions consistency/durability as softness will be delayed
at least and minimized at best.

Conditions Notes:
There could be initial crusty bits but we do expect everything
to become soft as the warming air temp begins to work on
surfaces that already have lingering hints of softness underneath,
left over from the last days of warmth and dampness.
Where freshly overnight groomed, there has been great
all-day smoothness, although with the spring heat, there
have also been hints of surface saturation that causes a
bit of a thick sensation underfoot. It’s spring, it’s warm.
In todays specific case with some overnight cool, we
could see a mini-winter-like reset for some early hours,
but if the overall forecast holds...
What you should end up with for the majority of the day
is a very shreddable spring snow surface that is easy to
control if, if, if... you have a laser focus on speed control.

If you are a legitimate Expert, you can get miles of
air-time bump jumps as you hop from top-to-top,
otherwise...
The challenge in these bump conditions is to keep
the speed at just under launch velocity. As long as
your edges are on the snow, you’ve got mega-grip,
however, these are indeed, and quite literally, launching
ramps if your speed gets out of control. They have the
capacity to send you towards the sky with surprising
quickness if you’re not completely in control of speed.

conditions, certainly in the top tier of historic references.

The trail pictured in this update below, Versant Nord/North Side
Beauchemin Bas/Lower, has been open since November 27, 2021.
It was excellent from that moment and it is still excellent now.
It is not a super-steep or “Extreme” trail of any sort, however
it has consistently been one of the very best technical carving
trails on the Mountain due to its use as a corridor for grooming
operations that radiate outward from its key position. In this way
it repeatedly gets multiple passes and consequently enjoys a
unique degree of compaction that keeps it very very stable.
