Either in spite of the initial weather forecast inaccuracies,
or because of the initial weather forecast inaccuracies, we're
forecasting that it’s all going to end up looking exactly like
our pic. sample above, absolutely great snowy conditions,
ideal for a Ski Resort!

Weather Notes:

The difference in the the temp readings at Base levels
@ -24C and higher collection points @ -27C indicates
a substantial elevation differential this morning. This
is quite a bit colder than forecast.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Where freshly groomed, very fine to excellent initial smoothness
generated by more ideal compaction after a second overnight
grooming cycle. That second round of grooming should have
reduced a lot of the loft in the newest snow so we fully expect
a more universal smoothness everywhere. We do recommend
ski/board base waxing or coatings to enhance/optimize glide
when super-chilled snow can seem a bit slow on shallow runouts
or traversing longer plateau’s.

It is likely that the early cold will reduce the attendance first
thing, but whether or not that keeps folks at home is a bit
of a wild card. What we expect is that the Saturday crowds
may just peak later on, say just before noon, instead of the
more usual 10:30 A.M.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

“Crispy”. The cold effects have generated a sand-like
consistency to the loose and untracked zones that
still exhibit degrees of higher frictional characteristics.
That has actually been a positive control factor in the
ease of use and from that standpoint it could be argued
that this is actually a good time for aspiring Sous Bois
learners to explore and experiment in the bush when
there is just a touch of natural speed control to offset
gravity.

For Snowboarders, that means you really want to stick
to steeper descent lines because if you get stuck in
2 feet of powder in a flat spot that requires a foot out,
progress may be difficult. Shallow zones for Skiers are
no problem, you just go “Nordic” for a few strides
wherever necessary.

There continue to be naturally occurring hazards of
rock and wood, some of which can not be seen very
well from above so it is critical to undertake all initial
explorations with low speeds and to observe and take
seriously all hand posted Ski Patrol hazard signage.

The outlook for the Sous Bois group is that there are
substantial chances for significant snowfall buildups
over the next 48 hours that could bring all these zones
much closer to full mid-season maturity as the total
seasonal accumulations reach over the 300cm’s mark.

----------------- 11:01 A.M Insert Update: ---------------------

Despite the overcast start to the day that was supposed
to be sunny, the sun did finally prevail to variable degrees.
Overcast should be back soon though, bringing snowfall
as well.

Please Note: +2C Temp. Inversion To Warmer Summit.
