10 cm’s Of Fresh New Snowfall,
But Shaped In Uniquely Drifted Patterns.
2.3.25.Ptit.Bonheur.Top.Ent.Trail.Side.Drift.Shape.Sample.d.jpg
Above is a real, genuine, "you can go there and
look at it this morning", drifted Sous Bois
wind-shaped snow drift zone adjacent to
the upper P’tit Bonheur entrance that is
approximately 1.5 metres deep.
It is not an open zone of terrain but it is a totally
relevant sample of wind-shaped drifting that can
be very easily seen from an open trail-side and also
be scaled up to represent a more generalized
pattern over the whole Mountain.
What we say is the aerodynamics involved here
do not know scale, in the sense that a Cessna 152
flies for the exact same reason a Boeing 747 flies.
When it comes to the flow of snow over a peak, drifting
occurs in small localized contour areas for exactly
the same reason it happens over entire sectors of
the Mountain and so what you see above is the
precise reason we are often way less concerned
with the amount of snow we got, than the pattern
of how and where it was laid down. In this case,
like so many others, Versant Nord/North Side and
Edge Sectors got serious drifting benefit.
That is not to say that other areas have not gotten
drifting too, for only one example, we would expect
that Trail # 41, Versant Soleil “Toboggan” might
have some exceptionally fine drifting, particularly
on the left descending side along its wonderful
roller coaster twists and turns. There will be dozens,
if not hundreds of similar zones of select benefit.
Your Expert mission is to explore responsibly to
find them and enjoy them, fresh and untracked,
while you can.

"Over The Top” Thick, Heavy Falling Snowfall... literally, because
the wind was pushing TONS of snow up the Sud/South slopes
and as it crested the Summit, it was just dumping down here
on the Duncan Haut/Upper pitch. At the bottom visible range
of this pic., well behind and below the shelter of the Summit,
the wind was virtually calm.
On the flip-side, the visibility in the direct wind blasted
snowfall at the Summit plateau behind this pic below,
was less than 20 metres. See our Apres Ski pic from
last night for that.

Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Where freshly groomed, superbly smooth and
forgiving with exceptional ease of control across
all ranges of skill levels.
Due to the wind velocity and direction yesterday,
that is continuing today, there will be some zones
of slick or icy base exposures but they will be in
patterns like just at and below topographical crests,
and compared to the vast expanses of beautifully
prepared trails, any glitches are really, really minor.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Wonderful, deep, heavily drifted, fresh, authentic, cold-formed
white winter snowfall.
Applied across the entire Sous Bois group the obvious
benefits are generating some “Best Of Season” conditions
that are both challenging and simultaneously forgiving.
