It’s Been Like This For Weeks!

Outstanding Groomed Conditions As Far As The Eye Can See!

It’s a simple point, and in this case above,
the picture is literally worth a thousand words...

Weather Notes:

By the recent standards of the last month or so,
a reasonably mild day, however a close look at
the wind gust values in the data graphics gives
an insight into the wind chill that will definitely
be a factor and a good reason to bundle up, before
going out the door.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Here are the jewels in the Tremblant winter crown.

Many, many days and weeks of very consistently
cold weather without even a hint of thaw for over
a month have produced a seasonally mature base
that is very high in glitch-free quality.

Daily repeated grooming cycles have achieved a wide
ranging optimization of trail surface density and that
has meant mogul resistant quality that has all-day
durability.

Is it perfect? “Perfect” is a concept that humans
can only aspire to, so yes, there can be some
zones of wind generated slick or icy bits at or
around some topographical crests, but they are
tiny in comparison to the vast majority of beautifully
prepared surfaces that cover the entire groomed
trail network.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Generally very good with some select excellence left
in the Hors Piste where believe it or not, if you are
willing to explore cautiously and outwardly, there are
still some fresh powder lines.

The Un-Groomed are a different situation that are
far more individualistic where there are both great
conditions and some very raw challenges that can
happen in the same descent. Yesterday we had a
one-pic case study on Versant Nord/North Side
Banzai, where there are clearly marked rock hazards
that are not always clearly visible from above.

Those hazards are compounded by the irregular bumps
generated by mixed ski/board traffic in very narrow
confines so there is no easy rhythm pattern and the
choppy uneven moguls need extremely slow bump
by bump navigation to step through in order to just
get down and avoid being randomly ejected skyward.

Over the past decade, this trail and its adjacent trails
have received periodic grooming reboots that even
out all the irregularities and cover the rocks with a
level foundational base making the bumps that form
from that point 10X predictably easier, and far safer
for everyone, for weeks. We are hopeful that those
refinements are going to be possible, but until then,
the point is you need to take Ski Patrol hand posted
hazard signage seriously.

Otherwise, where the cryogenic cold snow in the Sous Bois
group has adequate depths, the softness and loft has
meant very easy control with a high degree of shock
absorbing forgiveness.

In a very fortunate coincidence, below, we were sent a
T360 fan pic that is virtually 180 Degrees, within roughly
the same time frame as the Summit composite scanning
POV above.

That is the Lowell Thomas Quad peak on frame-left,
and the Summit scanning Web-Cam globe is located
on the corner of the Grand Manitou Lodge building
on the right side of the frame. The TGV Quad peak
is just off to the frame-right side where the person
with in the blue and white outfit has just stepped
off that lift.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
