Spring Back Into Winter!

The only question you might have is “Where do I go next?”,
and that’s exactly what the Summit Info. Ski Crews can help
you with, if need be, on a run-by-run basis over your entire day.
Spring conditions can mean highly individual daily circumstances
and the insights of the Info. Ski team are an invaluable resource
in the pursuit of maximizing fun, effective explorations and safety.
We consult with them every single day on the Mountain and so
should you!
Weather Notes:
For today, we have the basic favour of constant snowfall,
but there are some conflicting signals with the indications
of extreme wind speeds that could have ground level
gusting of up to 40 KMPH??? Wow, if that actually happened,
wind speeds that are always amplified at the Summit could
be extraordinarily vigorous and that could have huge impact
on snowfall retention between geographical sectors facing
that wind, or in the lee of that wind.
Currently the wind direction is forecast to be rising right
up over the Jasey-Jay/Duncan Sector and in our opinion
that could primarily favour the Beauvallon/Nansen and
maybe even P’tit Bonheur and the Beauchemin side of
the Lowell Thomas sector. Maybe. It All depends on
how the wind swirls as topography generates vortex
events around contours and lays the snow down.
Please also note that today and this entire forecast
period could see substantial additional snowfall over
elevations from orographic precip., especially if air
masses above the Mountain remain colder.
One thing for sure about today though, even if the
temps are mild by winter standards, the windchill
will make it seem far cooler and that means a legit
“Bundle Up” advisory.
Otherwise, a review of the temp and precipitation profile
from now until the beginning of April, shows this could
be a very snowy and winter-like period where at typically
cooler than base by -4C, the Summit might not see much
other than a few hours of above freezing for over a week?
If so, extraordinary for the end of March.

Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Due to multi-day sub-zero C’s with consecutive
grooming cycles we think today could see some
very fine results from the incremental improvements
in scope and evenness of the groomed square area
that naturally occur when the temps don’t bounce
around the freezing mark so much. All this plus
new, fresh snowfall which has the potential to render
a very user friendly cushion where accumulations allow.
It’s still spring though and that means you may
encounter icy bits of exposed base, especially
if the wind has any erosive focus in its facing
exposures.
Patterns should be very quickly obvious and with
all that in mind, we’d recommend that you explore
cautiously for sweet spots and allocate some time
to repeat training descent cycles to take advantage
of zones that suit your skills where you can have the
most safely reliable fun.
Consults with the Info.Ski team will be invaluable in any
number of ways including the possibilities of maybe
additional reopening terrain if enough snow falls, or
closures if the extreme wind causes safety issues.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Where Open and available...
a la Carte with loads of wildcards that make for highly
individualistic quality. Cautious Expert exploration
required with great sensitivity to rapidly changing
characteristics along any given descent line, on top
of which new snowfall could favourably generate
improvements.
Please Note:
The Versant Sud/South Side Gondola is shown as closed
in the report text field, but has an open tick on the graphic
side. A early review of the Web Cams shows the Gondola is
absolutely loading First Tracks passengers and moving them
up the Mountain.
