3/14/26 #Tremblant Conditions

70/102(*) Open Trails At #Tremblant .

Many Southern/Western regional urban folks are
wondering(after all the recent warm/rainy weather
and the green lawn patches appearing at home),
is there still good snow at Tremblant?

March 13, 2026 Tremblant360 “Proof Of Snow”.

Despite the warm wet spell a few days ago, the retained
base depth at Tremblant has shown tremendous resiliency
and far less loss than might have been expected.

The ski poles shown above are 148cm’s, so in this Nord/North
P’tit Bonheur Haut/Upper trailside location we have a random
depth sample of just under a metre and a half of freely available
snowpack that we would say is common on a “+/-“ basis
throughout the upper Nord/North Lowell Thomas sector.
In the adjacent groomed P’tit Bonheur, there are 4.3 metres
of compressed/compacted seasonal accumulations and the
Tremblant Mountain Op’s group has done a superb job of
maintaining it to quite nearly flawless quality.

On top of all that, it is vigorously snowing, and shows no signs
of letting off as it densely falls, accumulating a quickly thickening
blanket with mildly variable breezes.

It should be noted that the lingering evidence of the warmth and
freezing rain, followed immediately by a sharp drop to below
Zero C episode, is a firm base that within virtually all the Green
trail samples we had, shows surprisingly very little in the way of
icy bits. For sure, there are some, but way less than we thought
the case might be.

Please Note: This “Proof Of Snow” is only a diagnostic snowpack
reserve observation and is not any form of approval for Sous Bois use.
The Sous Bois is closed and for good reason because there can be dangerous
hazard. See conditions notes below, following later today.

On grey, cloudy, overcast days the “Colours Of Fun” pop
out, the brightest spots on the Mountain!

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Due to the shallow nature of the loose top layers that
can easily displaced by excessive turning force, it is
absolutely imperative to have sharp, recently tuned
edges, you simply need very single mechanical advantage
you can have. If you can combine the best possible
physical grip with the firm substrates and apply your
carving inputs with gradual, evenly increased pressure,
it is possible to enjoy reliable high performance. The
emphasis in these conditions is subtle engagement.
Jerky or abrupt force will instantly overcome traction
limits while gentle graduation will actually hold a
remarkable amount of lateral edge... but, very focused
sensitivity needs to be adaptably applied en route, with
cautious exploratory speeds.

We can’t Do Anything About The Weather, But For
Mountain Crews, The Grooming Default Is “Smooth”!

Our forecast is that forgiveness will increase on a
day-by-day basis as repeat grooming and more
snow should synergistically elevate grip everywhere.

It should be noted that grooming has prioritized Green’s
and Blue’s, there are Blacks that are “Recently Groomed”,
i.e., yesterday, where the overnight snow is thick and
prone to tracked variable choppy bits. It should also be
noted that speed is wicked fast everywhere the firmness
is greatest, so proactive speed control is essential to
prevent gravitational runaway.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste, Glades and Un-Groomed:

What the Proof Of Snow does not show is the thin layer of
frozen rain ice sheet that exists just below the dusting
of top layer fresh snow. This solid membrane-like covering
over much of the Sous Bois domain makes its use very
unforgiving because if skis/board break through, no human
muscle force known could overcome the reverse leverage
over ski tips to break them back out and that means turns
become instantly impossible and in the proximity of “trees”,
the danger becomes obvious. There may be other reasons as
well, but to us, this is a big one.

Above: P’tit Bonheur Adjacent Proof Of Snow Strata Detail.
Stepping off skis, and currently common of Hors Piste, the
ice sheet you see above as a thin dark line will hold your
walking weight in some places, but in the majority, will not.
It is sufficiently strong that if ski tips break under it, they could not
be reverse leveraged to break out by any measure of known human
strength, thereby representing a potentially significant hazard.

In our opinion we’ll need either heat and/or a substantial depth
of new snowfall to overcome or offset the current risks so the
closures in this trail group are completely legitimate. Will it
snow enough to offset things this eve.? Only Mother Nature knows...

Summary:

The main take-aways are... show up with good edges for safe fun
in the groomed, and respect the closures in the Sous Bois until
Tremblant officially reopens within this group.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
