Otherwise,

After a beautiful firm ’n fast morning...

Everything Got Soft.

But it all stayed Beautiful!

It is likely that tomorrow will be similar in coverage
however considerably softer across the entire span
of open hours as a consequence of steady above
zero C temps, amplified by intense solar energy.

Wax or coating bases with “warm” temp range
material is essential to optimize glide as the
saturation levels are on the high side, to the
point of acting as a very sticky, suction-like
surface necessitating skating action. If you
don’t have some sort of friction modifier, the
going can be a bit on the slow side.

We use a hydrophobic coating designed to repel
water adhesion to ski bases and it works like a
charm to maintain glide and speed. Ask your
favourite Ski Shop what they have for DIY, or
have them do it as part of a Ski/Board tuneup.

If you’re reading this at some future time while
considering any genuine Spring warm conditions
you’ll be traveling for, take this as a reminder/notice
to prepare in advance.

O.K., so the Edge sector is closed, but...

There Are Still Signs Of Great Spring Skiing At Tremblant!

Way back in the cold depths of the Polar Vortex January
and February we wrote about how all of that would benefit
the durable coverage and quality of Spring Skiing...

That is everything up to, and including, now.

Sous Bois/Un-Groomed Update:

Ropes are still up, but this is shown as “Open” on the official
list so we expect this to clear very shortly.

Please Note:

Summit access to some Sud/South trails still roped off
however we do expect those to clear quickly.

Weather Notes:

Thank goodness the rainy bits are gone for the next 36
hours or so, this is a huge asset for the durable coverage
of closing weekend. Obviously today and tomorrow look
like the best opportunities, but as far as closing day goes
on Sunday, we’d have to say it’s still too early to call all
the detail there as the recent forecasts have all exhibited
quickly changing dynamics, so stay tuned for more as
the final picture evolves.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

While the main trail network has evidently
come through yesterdays significant warm
and wet episode, it is difficult to know exactly
how that is going to translate into actual
surface characteristics this morning because
of the 16 hours of heat and thaw that has
occurred since last run yesterday.

We actually think there’s very good potential
for the initial conditions to be firm and fast
due to outward cold radiation from the core
of the Mountains long term stored winter
refrigerant reserves, however...

Certainly on the Sud/South base levels there
are profound overnight differences in the
visible amounts of bush snow, but... Based on
the number of open trails this morning, we
would have great confidence in the continuing
fundamental stability of the still frost supported
groomed trail array.

One thing for sure... at the eventual ambient temp’s
forecasted well above Zero C, waxing/coating ski/board
bases with “warm” temp range material is going to be
the best option for glide optimization. Skis/Boards
without some hydrodynamic assist may become “sticky”.

Summary:

Due to the very high “dynamic” components of today,
we are going to attempt to have an extensive Apres Ski,
however for regional Tremblant Fans... take another
look at the hourly forecast for tomorrow in the weather
data graphic above and plan accordingly.
