Apres Ski Tremblant... There was one "issue" today, and that
was vision. We found out how to deal with that and things got
a lot better... For details on that and other things,
scroll down to "Apres Ski" in about a half hour or so. @5:00 P.M.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Smooth Sailing"

Def: an expression used to denote an easy, pleasant experience,
without concerns for problems, delays or interruptions.
Frequently associated with Skiing or Snowboarding at Mont Tremblant.

"Whose dictionary did you find that in?"

Any experienced Tremblant Skier or Boarders, that's who...

We think that pretty much sums up your Tremblant experience for
today, Smoooooth Sailing, on immaculately groomed surfaces of
fine natural and blown snow that have carefully been worked on
overnight by one of the most experienced Mountain Crews on
the planet.

Open trail count this morning up to 8 because Onesime, from the
top of the Cabriolet, down to P1 is back open. Our summit based
Alpine ski and board terrain remains the same as yesterday with
4 main paths of descent, on the South Side, Nansen, Alpine and
Beauvallon to the TGV High Speed Quad, and on the North Side,
P'tit Bonheur to the Lowell Thomas Triple.

The additional natural snow has us very close to opening additional
terrain, the most obvious of which is in the Lowell Thomas sector.
Everyone riding up the Lowell Thomas chair has a great view of
this immaculate white snowfield as they pass over. The unseen
portion which may need more finishing work is La Traverse which
needs to be complete as well in order to get back to the Lowell Thomas
base. This is just one example of the expansion that we will see very
soon.

triple chair.

Work on all the terrain required for the upcoming 24 hour Children's Charity
fundraiser will take priority, to a certain degree, but there has to be
ways an means for the public to get around too, so expansion in all
areas that are open is inevitable. Daily accumulations of more natural
snow are going to help that, but at this stage, it's still a guess about how
much. One things for sure though, the conditions for snowmaking are
almost ideal, so production should continue at full speed for the whole
week ahead.

The weather today is another easy -2C base and -7C summit with a
moderate wind from the west, or up Beauvallon. Less wind than yesterday
will definitely contribute to a more pleasant day today. We will probably have
overcast all day and flurries should be in the mix too.

Apres Ski Tremblant...

It all started out with a nice ride to the top...

As you can see, it was avery nice wintery view on the ride up.
The world looked quite "Black and White", except for the little
bits of colour floating by in the form of down-bound Gondola
cabins.

Visibility was a safety issue at the summit today.

The snow particles encountered while riding up particularly the
Lowell Thomas Triple, were a bit damp, so they were sticking onto
goggle lenses and turning into instant ice.
This ice was difficult to remove and many people were
complaining about not being able to see. We figured out how to solve
that by sticking the goggles inside our jackets for the ride up which
thawed them out and kept them clean.
The other thing we tried that worked well, was to take a hand out of
a glove and put your flat palm over the lens in a stationary position
for about 30 seconds. The warmth from your hand would melt the icy
lens coating enough to see for a whole run. You had a cold hand for a
couple of minutes, but as soon as you got moving, you forgot about that.

In this wide angle pic, the people in the background are only
7 to 10 meters away and already blurry from Summit Snow.

This is where this mornings "Smooth Sailing" part comes in...
Once you got below the summit on P'tit Bonheur, it was smooth
sailing. The weather played a few tricks though, so there were
low flying clouds that passed over and made things a bit thick
towards the end of the day. Beginners and Intermediates may have
had to navigate some slick or icy portions in the narrower high traffic
zones, but experts could find good snow with grip, on the edges of the run
all day.

One of the most colourful areas of the Mountain was any, short
lift line. There were sometimes the lines might have been about 5
minutes, but with only 2 brief exceptions, you could ski right up
to the front in the singles line.

On any day with an abundance of "Grey" light, kidz
in bright gear also added a little splash of colour...

Adapting to the challenges was the order of the day
and when you could do that, you got to appreciate the beauty that
Mother Nature was waiting to show you.
