12/20/10 Conditions

Post by T360 »

Morning Update-->
Strong possibility of Duncan Quad Chair testing
on Dec. 22nd, and MAYBE, just maybe, subject to a whole bunch of
factors to numerous to list (mostly because we're not lift tech's and
we don't know them all), it may/could open on the 23rd!

It is our understanding that all people elevating devices, such as
Elevators and Ski Lifts are subject to Laws that mandate certified
inspections, so we're confident that Duncan will fly through the
test process.

Very important news for all Tremblant fans and we wish the Mountain
Crews all the best with their work.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Up at 5:02 A.M.

Can't wait to see what's on the Tremblant Open List for today!

The Official Preview Snow Report dated for "today" that
http://www.tremblant.ca puts out almost every single day just
after lunch "yesterday", says 53 Open Trails today.

Tremblant usually releases the final daily documentation anywhere
from now, 5:00 am, until about 7:45 a.m.

About 85% of the North Side is scheduled to be
On-Line today, good news.

Exclusive, Private Club week, this week before Christmas.
That's what it will feel like out on the Mountain as most folks are
off doing family X-mas activities on the four corners of the land.

----- end of early post -------------------

No need to "Question" the quality of Skiing and Boarding
at Tremblant today, that will be excellent!

Tons of new snow and bunches of new, open trails this week
make Tremblant the Laurentian "No Questions Asked" best choice!

All kidding aside, the Mountain Info. Crews in this Summit Pic.,
over by the Trail Map Board at the Lowell Thomas off-load zone,
are on duty continuously to answer guest questions.

54 (*) Open trails this morning under partially sunny skies with
a high base temp of around -7C, so the summit will be about 5C cooler.
The winds should start out to be quite light from the North-West
or coming up Nansen and they may pick up a bit in speed later on,
but only slightly, so it's going to be a nice, manageable day.

All this new snow, plus the super high quality blown snow, makes for
very high levels of grip and control. The carving surfaces of Tremblant
will put a smile on the faces of all skill levels. Tremblant has 360 (nice number)
of acres of open terrain with a great selection for beginners, right on
up to experts. Please note that some of the intermediate and expert
trails are not groomed, so explore with care and be mindful of the
challenges you face with control.

Regular readers here may recall how enthused we were about the
potential opening of the "Edge" this past weekend. Unfortunately that
did not happen, but non-the-less, the Edge sector is filling up very nicely
and it should come on-line very shortly. Same with Soleil too, we will
probably see quite a bit of expansion this week.

------------------------------------------------------------

Correction: The edge was open for a period on Sat. See all following.
We will try to add some additional archival content here for the
record. If you have pic's or first hand accounts such as "Freeskier678"
below, please add if you feel so inclined.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Already the Mountain is getting busy with Christmas Holiday guests so
all new trail openings will be very welcome and as noted above, getting
Duncan back on-line will be a huge asset to Holiday operations.

With all the Holiday guests, you will need to be careful with speed.
Please use caution and leave plenty of space around you for safe passage.
Keep "eyes in the back of your head" around intersections and lift
load zones. Watch out for beginners or people who are new to the area
and may make sudden direction changes. You are responsible to YEILD
to everyone you pass that is below you, as per Mountain Code.

If you're sitting in Montreal or Ottawa deciding about Tremblant
this second, just go... and go for as long as you can...

Superb Early Season Conditions are an absolute
Pre-Christmas joy!

I don't know where you were on Saturday, but the edge was open! Lapped it 3 times, very nice conditions for this time of season. It is closed now because it is all tracked out and lots of hazards are showing. For those "pre x-mas lines" forget about it, the wait at the Lowell Thomas chair was 15 minutes and that is just for single line the group line took almost 25 minutes to get through!

Sorry for the length of the following, but it's so rare to hear
from anyone, therefore it's a good opportunity to cover a few issues.

We had to be at one of those Family Christmas gatherings, about 800Km's
due west of Tremblant.

Typical of many at this time, we have to travel to see relatives.

Anyway, thanks for the corrections and additional info. It's difficult to
be in 2 places at once, so it's important that we stand corrected for the
benefit of both immediate and the archival values.

Have you got any Pic's?

It almost goes without saying that without Duncan, there are going to be
lines on the North when it's busy. There's no doubt that the Lowell
Thomas fixed triple chair can only carry so many per hour, and that is
the limiting factor in North Side Uphill capacity when Duncan is not
available. Too bad about the fire, but the good news is that all the
pieces are in place and the Duncan Quad should be back on-line within
"hours", if everything goes well.

Anything that improves the quality of the records correctness here must be
accepted at face value and I welcome the backup and/or verification. We
are a "glass half full" certified organization and we're trying to make it a
Tremblant Geographic Diary. Consequently, we seek constructive input from
anyone that wants to talk meaningfully about the qualities of the Alpine
experience at a level that future tremblant historians would consider a
useful insight. As well, we want it to be useful for confident immediate
future planning, like "Lets Go To Tremblant Tomorrow" or "Next Week"
planning.

It's interesting in the sense that when we have to be away, we do the same
thing the general Tremblant Browser does, interpret data. The difference,
hopefully, is the experience, either/or past or present.

We find pic's useful in the general descriptions of surface qualities
in particular.

We love the Web Cams and we've been using fully credited
Web Cam Snap Shots, courtesy of http://www.tremblant.ca,
since almost the beginning of this website to document weather,
surface quality and conditions. We have archived quite a few Mountain
events, as well as conditions, in multiple formats.
Immediately below are 2 samples:

Here's a video:
http://bit.ly/h98ZYw

Here is a Picture sample from last week.

"When you toss skis into a snowbank, they look like this:"

(Then I'll try to say something like... "Any experienced skier knows
what this picture means to surface quality." It's true and it's real.)

We get slammed by the "Trip Advisor" Tremblant forum hit squad
who are critical that we "Cut and Paste" the downloadable Trail and
Grooming document from http://www.tremblant.ca, but we're proud to
include this most excellent and wonderfully laid out file. There is a ton
of work that goes into it, and if anyone can show us a better, more
efficient way to list Tremblant's trail status, then point it out.
We will continue to feature this fine record here because it is simply
the best available and we appreciate every single line of it.

These conditions reports were never meant to be a single voice, either,
so if there are those that want to contribute to the record,
please, please do so....

Thanks Freeskier

I can attest to that behaviour on the Trip Advisor forums. The majority of them are decent enough but that one guy that used to run the tremblant-_ site basically attacked me last week and was accusing me of working for tremblant360 and having multiple usernames, which is false.

He is one of their "destination experts".

I had actually recommended this site for up to date mountain reports as I find them to be excellent. If anyone can give me a better site I would be interested. Perhaps that yahoo still has ties to that site of his and perhaps makes money from the hits to the site?

either way, a terrible way to greet people on those tripadvisor forums. It was despicable.

Hi Richard!

Thanks for making the effort to join up here. We appreciate your
interest and participation.

The individual that falsely accused you of being us has done this before
and to others. For some reason he believed that he owned the rights to
control any public Tremblant discussion on the internet.

We want to be all about the skiing/boarding here, pure and simple.
As far as our conditions posts, unless something affects our ability
to get to the summit we really don't get into any politics or other stuff,
we'd like to stay focused on the Alpine experience.

Tremblant is one of the finest technical Alpine Ski areas we know of,
for all skill levels, beginner through expert. After 40 some odd years of
skiing just about everything in North America with a lift and some
without, we still feel the same way.

Took a look at your Trip Advisor data and see with great interest that you are from
Subdury... just so happens that we grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, so we share
a common bond of Northern Ontario experience, particularly the -25C days
that roll on for a few weeks every winter! That helps us to handle anything
Mother Nature dishes out at Tremblant from time to time, we're used to it!
(For anyone else reading this, cold weather is not as difficult to deal with when
it is a dry cold, such as we have in Northern parts of Canada, so you should not
be put off at all by a beautiful Eastern Canadian winter)

You are going to find Tremblant a pure joy! Tremblant is a "Pre Cambrian" Geographic
feature and it has a distinct shape and rhythm to it's descents that are unique.

Of course, there will always be differences of opinion about which area is better than
another. "Some people prefer Blondes, some people prefer Brunette's" we like to say.
We love Tremblant and we hope that you do too.

If you would like any other Tremblant related info., go ahead and post under the "General"
category on these forums index and we'll carry it on over there so it doesn't get buried
in/under the daily conditions. When you're on the Mountain, it would be great to hear from
you in the "dailies" with conditions/trail comments, or in "general" for other.

Sincerely, T360

Thanks for the quick reply. It's too bad my 2 posts got deleted from the Tripadvisor forums, as they were quite hilarious. I actually reported HIM for harassment after he groundlessly attacked me for having multiple usernames and working for this site. It showed how paranoid and anal he truly is.

As for the Northern Ontario thing, that's great. Never been to the Sault, but they are pretty much our sister city up here.

I have posted a question in the general forum if you'd like to address it.

lol I just saw those post by this "destination expert". Let just say he's not the biggest fan of Tremblant...

Haha, are you serious? What's his deal anyway? One of his last posts just said something like "he wishes they would have listened to him but unfortunately they dismissed all of his advice"...does he fashion himself to be the grand puba or something??

He drove me to this site, so I suppose I have to thank him for that!
