12/25/10 Conditions

Merry
Christmas
Everyone!

Page will be revised a few times in all probability,
and there's lot's of potential good news, so refresh
as needed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon up-date:

Started at 3:00P.M.

Lots of corrections on operational points from both listed data
and forecasted.

For the sake of the archive and as a diary like review of the
differences between what we thought could be and what actually
happened, we're leaving everything as written initially, as it still
corresponds to the orig. posted Official sources.
The corrections will be posted below as replies together with supporting
evidence.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, the Skiing and SnowBoarding are going to be exceptional.
We have an absolutely gorgeous base of very high quality natural
and blown snow.

This base has been carefully groomed to produce
surfaces with the very best edge-set, grip and carving properties
possible on all the labeled groomed runs listed on the Official Trail and
Grooming status document enclosed below, courtesy of http://www.tremblant.ca

All trails "checked" in the third column are Groomed.
All trails with the "hourglass" icon are Progressive, or gradual opening
subject to Ski Patrol opening them up.

The logistical challenge today is going to be how the Mountain Staff
get everyone around with the accidental loss of the Duncan Quad, so
here is what we think could possibly happen, subject to verification,
which we shall attempt to do by all reasonable means.

We are including here a screenshot of today's "Open Lift" section of the
Official http://www.tremblant.ca Snow Report, courtesy of Tremblant.ca

The reason for this is that it shows the Soleil Lift open, but if you go back
to the Trail and Grooming Downloadable pdf file above, you will see that
there are no Officially open trails on Soleil yet. It also shows the "Destination"
Gondola to the Soleil sector open.

This will allow another 2 stage route to the Summit from the
South Side base, via the Soleil Quad.

According to this document, the second South Side gondola,
"Destination" is open to the Soleil sector.

This will allow a 2 stage return to the summit from the South side base
at Summit du Neige, via Soleil, which will also be a major help taking a
big load off the Gondola.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Correction: Our error on the following as
we incorrectly said today, when this actually
comes into effect tomorrow Dec. 26th.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Sorry about that... even though we got the date wrong,
it will still be interesting to see how it works out tomorrow
for the same reasons it would have been today.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

As per yesterday's Official Press release, busses will begin departing
the North side at 11:00A.M. to take people back to the South Side
to compensate for the accidental loss of Duncan.
If the busses return to the South Side base, this would provide
a lot of flexible options, right from the base of the Cabriolet.
It is possible that they might unload the busses at Summit du Neige,
where they can either take the "Destination" Gondola over to the Soleil
Chair, or take the Main Gondola or Flying Mile Quad from the Resort base.

At the time of this writing the following is a guess
and subject to confirmation.

If anyone with verified knowledge can confirm, please do so.

Another possibility could be that the busses will take people to the
Soleil Base and Up-Load them to the Summit from Soliel, as there
will be no traffic there from open Soleil runs.

This would actually be a simple, even clever way to express people back
to the Summit, because with no open runs on Soleil and consequently
no traffic, it would be super easy for the bussed guests to get back to
the top, ... and it would also take pressure off the the Gondola zone where
things could be busy.

Once again, this is a guess, based on putting possible "2+2's"
together from Tremblant.ca provided documents and
is subject to confirmation.

It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Lots of new terrain opened today:
Grand Prix opened with the snowmaking mounds on it. Best run to ski on the whole mountain, lots of fun and soft. Cure Deslauriers and Flying Mile are also opened.
Snowguns are going hard on Le Soleil and it looks like it will be opened tomorrow for skiing.

Firstly, thanks Freeskier678 for your up-date.

Grand Prix was listed as a progressive opening for today so
it's good to know they opened it up.

Would appreciate any additional comments you might have on
lines and lifts.

Secondly... Any concerns we might have had regarding the volume
of Holiday traffic, were, for today at least, no problems at all.
It was a non-issue all day as far as Expo, Gondola and Flying Mile
were concerned, because we could see them all day on the Web Cams
while we're off at Family Christmas/New Year Holidays.

None of these lifts has had more than about a 3 minute wait and
the Expo chair we dare say never got over 90 seconds. So from
Top to Bottom, it was an easy day, traffic wise.

This was the biggest line of the day at the Expo Quad,
about 90 seconds or less.

Can't speak for Lowell Thomas or TGV, other than there has been a
steady stream off them at the summit that can be seen from the
Summit Web Cam.

They fired up the Soleil Quad at about 11:15 a.m. or so, at least that's
when we could detect movement, and there was movement on the "Destination"
gondola from the South Side base over to the Soleil base, but no passengers
came up Soleil that we saw, so we think that it was being run in test mode.

Based on the traffic, it was not even close to necessary to run Soleil though
because the capacity of the Gondola, Flying Mile and Expo seemed to be
more than adequate.

More later...
