Reality Check.

"Brought to you today by..."

TREMBLANT RULE #1:
There will always be good Skiing or Boarding somewhere
within the open terrain at Tremblant. Period.

Here's a sample of Tremblant Rule #1...

Important notes concerning conditions that (with
any luck), will be helpful in preparing you for the
best possible day that you can have when...

A) the Weather network says it's -18C at 5:00A.M.
B) http://www.Tremblant.ca describes the base as "icy" in the
Official Snow Report.

How To have the best day possible:

1) Dress appropriately for the conditions.

This means you should not have any exposed skin. It's a full
"Face Mask" day out there folks.(Bella-clava, really big fleece
neck warmer that can cover nose up to Goggles may also do)

2) Tuned-up Equipment.(***)

Sharp edges are the only element that you have to exert lateral
grip, or force, on the base to execute turns and breaking maneuvers.

3) Positive Mental Attitude.

This is an individuals Binary choice. You either think the glass is
half full, or half empty. We can't tell you what "Side of the Coin"
you will be on, but one thing is for sure, if you are not prepared to
make the best of it, you will not likely have as good a day as someone
who will make the best of it.

Demanding conditions demand that you either learn how to cope,
or use your existing skills to cope if you already have them.

"Bah Humbug" Are you an "Ebenezer Scrooge", glass half empty
person? ...then best re-calibrate your attitude, or stay in bed
because frankly, with all that we have to deal with already today,
we don't need your negative vibes here. So there...(just trying to
be humourous in a serious kind of way)

4) OPTIONAL (**)...

Lot's of hot coffee. No kidding, the Canadian Military
did peer reviewed medical research and found that aerobic capacity,
stamina and cognitive abilities were increased in subjects who had
basically consumed a lot of coffee. Of course, the active ingredient is
the caffeine, but you already know that. Got 5 hours of outdoor aerobics
on your schedule today?
This is also a good excuse for multiple rest/hydration breaks which are
completely justifiable today.

It may sound whacky to you, but we love it on a day like today!
Demanding days make you better if you have a positive attitude
and focus on helpful skills and coping techniques... and then you
get to brag about it later on, Apres Ski!

ALWAYS REMEMBER...

TREMBLANT RULE #1:
There will always be good Skiing or Boarding somewhere

It's up to you to explore the Mountain with all due care,
control and within your skill level, to find it.

We think the best conditions could be on the North, but
careful Mountain exploration may turn up super surfaces
in any or all areas. Let us know what you find!

Tune-up Section Notes:

Utility function applicable to all Tremblant Mountain users
that can help maximize performance and enjoyment...

...Should have spent some time on this point before...

Tune-up. For us, sometimes we simply forget how important
it is to get back to basics, in this case equipment basics.
We have no idea whether or not, or how many out there have
either done, or have had done, a basic base stone grind,
edge sharpening and base wax/coating so far this season.

Without a doubt, if there are either slick/icy or "Eastern Hardpack"
conditions on the Mountain, a good 'ole basic Ski or Board tune-up
could make the difference between surgeon-like carving capability
and zippy quickness, or slip 'n slide skidding and high resistance
due to dull edges and an un-waxed base.

At the beginning of the season it's up to us to decide what level
that our equipment is prepared and further, if we might even use
an old pair of "Rock Skis" or an old Board because of the natural
hazards that can occur in early season, before we have complete
coverage. This older gear's state of tune can often be less than ideal.

Even if we're using our good gear, it's possible that it's seen quite a
few days of use since it's been tuned and because the performance
decreases on a gradual, daily basis, we just don't think a lot about it
until it finally registers that our edges just aren't hooking up when
we have to negotiate, firm hardpack surfaces or icy patches.

The first time we either personally experience, or hear of others
experiencing firm conditions or icy sections we are reminded of this
point and we immediately move into tune-up mode, because with
modern titanium/alloy edges, there's not much you can't handle here at
Tremblant with a freshly tuned set of edges and wax or base coating
appropriate for the temperature range.

COFFEE FTW!

But yes seriously today is really cold AND windy! The lift ARE running slower than usual, a couple had to be stopped this morning on the South side. The shuttle is still running to get people between the North and South side, from 11 am to 4:30 pm. You also have the option of taking the Casino shuttle and taking the Soleil chair.

Just got back, conditions were much better than yesterday. Not nearly as cold top and almost no ice like yesterday.

North was fantastic all morning until Lowell Thomas got seriously logjammed at about 1230. At 200 it took over half an hour for that lift.

Overall a fantastic day, hoping for Duncan lift tomorrow, any word on if it is on schedule?

With duncan going today if would have been a perfect day.

I had time to do 1 quick run this afternoon and yes it was nice, but it's the holidays, so very crowded with people who have no clue what they're doing.

Crossing our fingers for the Duncan tomorrow!

And I'm getting very sick of the whiners on facebook, I should tell them to go ski at Sugarloaf next time...
