Tremblant's surface quality makes huge strides upward and
it was great to begin with!

Anyone who has had the patience to be reading our conditions reports
for the last few days will acknowledge that we have been focusing on
the North side conditions and the picture above should hopefully explain
why. It was our feeling from the onset of this last winter storm system
that the weather conditions would favour the North, and they did.

It all began with snow, had 12 hours or so of rain on the lower South side
and ended up with a lot of fresh snow everywhere, but for us, the most
significant story yesterday was the North. The number of days we have these
kinds of conditions in a season can be counted on the fingers of one hand, so
they are very special indeed.

The anticipation started with the North Side views driving in, you just
know it's going to be special when you see this...

Looking back down over the North from the Summit you can see the spot
in the road that the pic. above was taken from, just to left of the middle
tree in this shot.

Here's a sample of what was in between the two above pic's on
the very powdery lower half of Marie-Claude Asselin where both
the scenery and conditions were absolutely amazingly beautiful.

Everywhere you looked, there was deep snow and beautiful views,
everywhere. Simply Spectacular!

More Great Moves, North Side Park.

There was so much fresh and deep snow to explore on the North that before
we knew it, it was "Last Run" and we have to admit it, we never made it
to the South side at all because we were parked on the North too.

As we said last eve. in the Apres-Midnight Apres Ski notes, there may have
been ice somewhere, but we never found it because there was none where we
were on the North.

There were Twitter posts about ice on the South, and we talked to people
that told us about heavy snow on Soleil, so there's no doubt that the different
sides of Tremblant were, well, different.

We will attempt to have a more balanced sample today, but when there's
as much fabulous, overwhelmingly, deep, snowy, perfectly silky, terrain to
explore in one place, it simply took up our whole day. It sort of reminded
us of Colorado or Lake Tahoe powder days we've had years ago.
Sorry about that...

Regardless of where you were on Tremblant yesterday, or even what
conditions there were on the 4 corners of the Mountain, it was a day
that required complete focus on fundamental elements of technique.

What Experts consider to be fun does not necessarily mean it's easy, so
it was a day of tremendously high quality, and very vigorous exercise.

Beginners had very nicely groomed terrain at the beginning of the day
on P'tit Bonheur, for example, but there was so much new snow that
it was not possible to compress/pack/groom that much, so by last run
there were even some slight moguls on it too. We expect that to be a
completely and much more consistently stable surface today, simply
because it has had time to "settle" as well as another day of grooming
and packing by Mountain crews.

All 4 sides of Tremblant will benefit from another day of settling out
and additional surface maintenance.

We actually think this is going to be potentially the purest, best week of
winter conditions for the whole season, all over the Mountain, and we'll
try to bring that story to here with the "Proof" pictures.

High temp of around -8C under bright, partially sunny skies,
another nice, easy winter day.

Speaking as we did above about vigorous exercise, we'd like to mention
that if you're used to spending time in the gym now, that you consider
organizing days at Tremblant to take advantage of all the physiological
and phycological benefits of outdoor workouts in such a pristine winter
environment as we are privileged to have here now.

The benefits to mind and body from the applied development of Alpine Snow
Sport skills is well documented. Active days on the slopes of Tremblant will
improve your health, energy levels, stamina and well being to name only a
few examples.

You will literally feel better after an active day on the slopes.
Tired, and maybe some tender muscles too if you're really working at it,
but that's exactly what makes it good for you.

Absolutely fantastic day here at Tremblant.

Basically, "Winter" has been restored, fully.

It was cool, but not really cold at the Summit. In practical terms,
when it was very cold, a few weeks ago, fingers used to switch
and manipulate camera settings would get functionally reduced
in about 90 seconds, today it wold take 4 to 5 minutes, now that's
nice if you're taking lots of Pic's like we do. More importantly though
is that they don't burn when thawing out, like happens when we get those
really Cold, deep winter days.

Today was very pleasant on the temp side, however the zippy little North wind
certainly kept you moving at the summit in order to prevent feeling chilled.

What was once bumpy, is now as flat and stable as a billiard table. By "last run"
yesterday P'tit Bonheur was getting a wee bit washboard bumpy, but today,
it was quite close to perfect. Smooth, Fast and Grippy, but mainly smooth.

This pic clearly illustrates the consistent quality of the pitch which extended right
to the bottom of P'tit Bonheur. It was an expert carvers practice heaven and a beginners delight, all at once.

The refinement today on P'tit Bonheur is typical of what will be occurring on all the
regularly groomed trail listings. The edge set properties of this packed, groomed,
settled and re-packed and re-groomed terrain is first rate.

The depth of the carve-able surface is sufficient to be supporting aggressive
short radius deep turns with very little give, so you can hold your best lines
while looking like a pro!

For anyone doubting the new snowfall, we've got this
"Proof of Snow", Pic.du Jour.

This pic. was taken less than 6 meters off the side of P'tit Bonheur

Parks were looking good too. This is the middle jump, South Side and
compared to a couple of days ago, it is looking completely rebuilt, reshaped
and restored!

Very nice refinement of the Tremblant Alpine Surfaces today.
Excellent Conditions with few glitches, a beautiful treat!

...and guess what???

Tomorrow will be better!
