What a Wild, Whacky, Wonderful,
Wintery, Windy, Wild-Card Week
We've Had!
Fabulous Conditions in everything from pure winter to
pure spring, sometimes within hours of one another,
but all very close to perfect!
From This, day before yesterday... To This, 11 Open Trails yesterday due to... Amazingly enough, this did not really effect surface quality
as Mountain Crews were able to grind it up with the powder makers
and within the open terrain, traction, edge set and smoothness was
excellent.
There was no question though, as soon as you saw this ice coating
everything at the summit, you could "clearly" see why there
was so much difficulty in getting lifts going yesterday. Can
you imagine trying to remove this from miles of cable and
hardware that were coating the lifts? We estimate that this
thickness of ice would have easily been capable of de-railing
cable without removal.
To a more normal Trail Count today, after a major storm...

http://www.tremblant.ca Mother Nature's Awesome Ice Show. We have not shown you a single ski or board pic. yet because the
overwhelming display of forest dynamic was absolutely dominant
as far as the days ambiance was concerned.
It is difficult to imagine any photograph could do this phenomenon justice.
The sense of depth and the breadth of scope can not fit on to any flat
surface that displays pictures.
On top of that what was really wild was the sound of all the breaking, snapping
trees that were crashing into the bush. We are not talking about little sapplings
either. Standing just below the Summit on the first right turn of P'tit Bonheur,
we took these iced tree pic's and as we were doing that, over the course of 3 to
5 minutes, we heard multiple small snap's 'n crashes, but we also heard two
really big, very loud big tree rippers, followed immediately by the kind of crashing,
branch ripping, ground slamming sounds that could only come from a very large
tree trunk/log breaking, snapping and hitting the ground.
It was awesome, literally. This is how Mother Nature flushes out the weak, as
it is quite obvious that only the strong trees can survive.
The most impressive thing was the continuous "Surround Sound" of
crashing branches, ice and trees that was very loud and left you with the
recognition that it was not safe to go in the bush at this time.
Not sure we've ever seen it quite like that. Sure, we've seen ice storms
here dozens of times over the decades, but this one stands out as being
unusually dramatic. Farther down the Mountain, this one on the right side of Sissy Schuss
about 100 meters down the run from the top, shows the type of ice
coating that was occurring here. This also formed a crust on the surface
that was thick and hard to break if you went off-trail. Back to 48 hours ago... We often refer to the "Blowing and Drifting" factor at Tremblant
and this is a classic illustration of that. Wanting to get the powder
line to the right side under the Expo Chair, this waist high drift
needed to be busted through. Over 100 CM in depth. It was not all
this deep, but on average, the drifting o the North exceeded the
snowfall totals by quite a bit, so it was a treat to have that experience.
Conditions Caveat: There may be Icy or other glitches in some areas
that have had wind/rain exposure or are subject to rising or falling
temps during the day. Use caution while exploring the Open Terrain.
Provided you were prepared with the appropriate wet weather gear...
The Skiing and Boarding were fantastic on the Open terrain.
Primo "Spring Skiing" with "Wall to Wall" coverage and not
one single mark on it that we saw anywhere.
Just Excellent!
Tremblant will be exactly the same today, Excellent!
