To begin with, the forecast was for overcast....
Wrong.... That was a pleasant surprise to start the day off....

73(*) Open Trails on this mornings Official list.
How Much Fun Can You Have At Tremblant?
Loads and loads of fun!
Fast, fast, fast on a very firm base with the vast majority of
groomed surfaces with good to very good carving and edge set
properties.
All the late season snow of the recent weeks has given Tremblant
coverage that we feel is above average in terms of skiable acreage
for this time of year.
The North was very "firm", but also very well groomed, so there was
excellent carving there, but our award for best conditions yesterday
goes to "Soleil" and "Laurentienne" as a personal pick. We didn't cover
every run on the Mountain though, so there may have been others that
were just as good. The suns energy was definitely sufficient to soften
the south facing surfaces.
Last nights overnight low of -15C will have firmed up some of the
sectors on the South and Soleil that were softening yesterday, but so far
at the time of this mornings writing, the overcast that was forecasted
is actually sunny with some cloud, so we may see temps and/or warming
solar energy above projections.
You need to be ready for just about everything. The importance
of having your edges freshly sharpened or tuned can not be overstated.
You need good edges to get the most out of these conditions.
Words to the wise...
At the point at which Mother Nature decides to raise the temps well
into the "plus" range, the spring skiing and boarding is going to
be absolutely phenomenal!
You need to keep your eye out for those days. Get all your excuses
ready so that you can escape at a moments notice because the real
warm Spring Skiing here a Tremblant will be nothing less than
fantastic. There is so much snow in the base that it just can not be
anything else.
We have that now, but on a smaller scale. Where the sun is able to work at
things, on a localized basis, there is a real "Sweet Spot" for conditions that
you can feel as you can get these beautiful, high traction carved turns going
in those areas.
There are clues everywhere about how deep the current base is.
Take a close look at the size of the snowbanks compared to the
height of the car in this pic. of Chemin Duplessis, the road to the
North Side. These banks are Huge! All that snow is still in the bush
and has been groomed into the base. Conditions Caveat:
Beautiful Spring coverage, but some slick or icy bits
created by transitional temp swings. The depth of the base is
quite remarkable for this late in the season. The firmness of
that base has been groomed by Mountain crews into a very
"carve-able" surface for the vast majority, however the
presence of some of these icy bits does require attention
to speed control as you may find yourself with less traction than
ideal.
Where the sun has the intensity to soften things up, you need to pay
attention to afternoon mogul formation below blind crests. A good
example yesterday was Toboggan. By just after lunch, cresting over
some of Toboggan's contours, there were some good sized bumps forming
and if your speed was too much, hitting those bumps could have been
difficult to navigate safely.
