3/25/11 Conditions

Post by T360 »

Apres Ski....

Typical of a restoration style grooming strategy, the ever-talented
Tremblant Mountain Crews are covering additional acreage every night
and as they do, the surfaces get better and better.

We are pleased to report that the weather forecast
is wrong.... again...

Instead of overcast, we seem to have brilliant sunshine!

This is what the vast majority of surface conditions are like
today. There are some areas of underlaying icy bits, but those
can almost change by the hour depending on the level of intensity
the solar energy can focus on any given area.

The solar energy factor is a larger component of the conditions mix
on the South and Soleil obviously, but the above pic. clearly shows
that runs on the North can be subject to the sun as well. The North
side runs just don't get the kind of direct, full on, baking afternoon
sun, so at this stage they are tending to have more slick patches.

The South's more direct sun exposure is actually helping as there's
just enough heat in it to give it an advantage, without being destructive.
We've also received member reports from the summit that has been quite
cool up there this morning. The afternoon may see that change, but in
any event we hope to be up there shortly and hopefully we'll be able to tell
you more about that later on.

One of the most important things you can do to be prepared for a great
day is to have a fresh tune on your edges. If you're a regular reader here
you might get tired of hearing it, but most of the gripes we hear about
are related to edge hold, and the ideal way to maximize that is with sharp
edges, so if you have it done before you visit, you've got the best chance
of being able to hook up and carve, while others are skidding around.

It got down to -13C again last night so we're continuing to hold on to
acres and acres of beautiful terrain that would normally be shrinking
quite a bit by now and we continue to rate this spring as an exceptionally
good one with remarkably durable surface conditions within all rated
skill levels.

There's something a bit odd with the weather in the sense that the
forecast has called for overcast and even precipitation for the past 2 days
but it has not materialized. Everyone has fun poking fun at Weather
Forecasters, but they're not usually that far off.
Here's a look at yesterday when it was supposed to be a lot different
than this....

We would have liked to have had snow, but as you can see, it
was not too hard to take anyway...

Solid, well centered fundamental technique with attention
to speed, braking and directional control will reward you
with a fine day on the slopes of Tremblant. The views and the
sunshine are beautiful and you should make every effort
possible to get out and enjoy any opportunity you can to
Ski or Board.

Be sure to check out Tremblant's Spring "Sikwam" pass
which is a huge bargain, a great deal and completely unrestricted,
so anyone from anywhere can take advantage. Links to that below...
