Apres Ski Up-date...

It was a great day and if you missed being here, you should fix that
by putting yourself somewhere in this picture!

The level of surface quality is both high and complete. Tremblant
Mountain Crews are doing a fantastic job and by the end of a busy day
perfect cruising terrain like this sample Rigodon, just as it comes into
the Lowell Thomas Base, can still be found everywhere.

Cool at -15C last night, but rising to -4C or so, under very
sunny, bright skies. A "crisp" Spring day!

This Picture above tells you everything you need to know about the
smoothness, edge-set and control properties of Tremblant's
Groomed terrain. It is the highest quality possible.

The Skiing and Boarding are great within all the rated skill levels
and the continuing sub-zero overnights at -15, -17C are preserving
the base.

This is an exceptional run of late season overnight lows that we
are all benefiting from, and will continue to benefit from for the
rest of the season.

The base is so stable and solid that there is no other possible
outcome for genuine "Spring" skiing/boarding, than excellent.

As is the case with "Spring", whenever the base has a slick, frozen or icy
component to it, the conditions get better and better each passing
day as the Mountain Crews get in the hours necessary to cover over 500
acres of groomed terrain.

We learned yesterday that a groomer can cover about 4 acres per hour,
so not unlike other types of land surface maintenance, ie, farming, it takes
a while to cover all the acreage because physically, you can only operate
the equipment over it at a certain speed. Too fast and you don't get the quality
that you need for grippy, carve-able Alpine Snow surfaces.

When it comes right down to it, you can not rush Quality, so while it takes a bit
of time to generate optimum surfaces, the results we get to have as Skiers and
Boarders is totally worth every second.

Conditions Caveat:

As fine as things are for the vast majority of groomed areas,
that does not mean there are no glitches. Dealing with Mother
Nature means that not everything can be perfect, only close.
You need to use common sense with regard to speed and
braking/steering control, particularly in areas that get daily sun
exposure, traffic and wear patterns, as well as on steeper pitches
or around trail intersections and run-out zones, for some examples.

There are variable icy sections created by daily Spring temperature
cycles that require carefully speed controlled navigation. Watch out
for both surface and traffic conditions that may be encountered without
a lot of notice.
