Major News!
...and we are very happy to report that we were wrong!
Expo Quad will not be the first North Base Lift.
First seasonal opening of Top-To-Bottom North
via Duncan High Speed Detachable Quad Chair Lift
with descent on Beauchemin all the way!
.... so in another way, we were right, at least about
imminent North Opening!
The North Open, Effective Tomorrow!

Mother Nature has a warm, 18 Hour Burp....
EEEEEEYYYYYEEEEEEWWWUUUUUUUUUUUUUU......
Well, at least it doesn't smell like an Onion/Garlic Burrito....
(Humour, or any attempt at humour means taking risks...
but on a damp day, you can either laugh or cry, so you pick....)
Unfortunately, it does smell like a bit of rain. Time for the
trusty old Descente Poncho!
Wet Weather Gear Notice.
Spring Skiing For A Day Notice!!!
For those of us brave(and regardless of weather, we will
Always think Lucky) enough to be Skiing or Boarding at
Tremblant today...
It's going to Primo, Spring Skiing Conditions For A Day!
BUT.... you will need to be prepared to maximize both
comfort and performance with a few basics...
1)Stay Dry .... GET A DESCENTE PONCHO
if you do not already have one. This is one of the
wisest, coolest, most useful and perfectly brilliant
items of Skier Kit you can have to get full enjoyment
out of any wet Spring Skiing Conditions....
Even When They're In The Fall!
2) Hydrophobic Base Wax Or Coating....
Water, even microscopic amounts that will
not significantly harm the snow surfaces,
wil non-the-less either create or contribute
to suction that slows you down in the presence
of "Wet". You need to have your Ski/Board Bases
done with a "Warm" temp range wax or coating
to prevent this suction from acting like a brake...
...and maintain your Glide capability.

guilty because you're not supposed to have that much fun,
at least that's what the whiners want you to believe, but with
our trusty Descente poncho, rain is no longer a deterrent,
you just go.... and go dryly at that.

For Those Planning to Visit Tremblant From Tomorrow on...
Fear Not!
The Skiing and Boarding will still be very good,
however, once the temps drop back to sub-zero...
You will need fresh, sharp edges for sure...
An overnight return to Sub-zero will create very "firm" base
conditions and there will probably be some ice, so you need
sharp edges to maximise control inputs for braking,
steering and speed control.
Weather permitting, Mountain Crews will have groomed in
the best possible Machine Granular surface layers overnight
and with traffic and additional grooming tomorrow eve. and
so on, that will get better and better. We do not anticipate
any loss of open terrain with this short thermal event so far,
but weather wild-cards could factor in.
Caveat:
Having tuned edges may make the difference between
having an excellent, safe, enjoyable visit, or an
out of control body experience and any consequent
injury.
We feel this Long Term Weather Model supports a quick
return to winter-like conditions. Grooming, Blown and Fresh
Natural Snow will enhance the surface recovery rate.
We have circled what we feel are the most important over-night
low temps that would be very favourable for SnowMaking.

coverage in 5 decent sub-zero overnights, so in addition to repair
and recovery from today, we think there's every good chance of
seeing North Side Top-To-Bottom soon.
Will we be right? Only time will tell.

Grooming at the Versant Nord, North Side Base Today!
Please Note:
There is no way to read into this any specific start-up time frame,
however, it is also fair to point out that Opening Terrain is a process
and at the very least, this indicates the next phase beyond initial
Snowmaking for this sector.
Opening the North Side from Top-To-Bottom is a significant advance in
any Tremblant season. Now that we can see the beginning of the shaping
and sculpting of the snow surfaces blown in over the past 10 days or so,
we're literally one step closer to having it opened.
There are at least a couple of "if's" in this type of situation...
"if" the temps stay low enough to make more snow...
"if" Mother Nature decides to contribute natural snow and how much....
Certainly, it would be desirable to have the North Base sector on-line
by the time the Christmas Holidays and the busy traffic start. That's
basically only a little over a week away. If Mother Nature was really
co-operative, anytime sooner would be a bonus.
Here's another clue to the development of the North Side Opening...
SnowMaking on Gagnon and the upper, Gagnon entrance portion of
Sissy Schuss.

The development of this path sequence allows North Side
Top-To-Bottom Via Beauchemin to Expo Quad Chair, ski
down Gagnon(the run with snowmaking we're looking at in
pic. above), to Lowell Thomas Triple and up to Summit.
The SnowMaking Schedule on Sissy Schuss and Fuddle Duddle for
the past week indicates that opening Sissy Schuss Upper to
Fuddle Duddle Lower, as a path to the Expo Quad Chair,
is also a reasonably near-term possibility.

POSSIBLE, NEW, first North Side Top-To-Bottom
lift and descent paths. There may be other options.
