5 CM of Fresh Snow will be a big asset in the
traction levels at Tremblant. Best Conditions
In The Laurentian's?
Even The "Competition" Races To Tremblant! Warmer Temps, they say up to Zero, will make a big difference
in the surface quality, at least on the lower sectors of the Mountain
and and at least during the time that they remain at Zero. "Warm"
surface traction only exists until "Cold" takes it back to a more solid
form, but with the new Snow mixed in, we should still see a
softening all the way around and continued on, even as "Cold"
returns.
Today will should be a very good Ski/Board day while all this weather
is going on.
Speaking of weather, we were very glad to have had the luck or
wisdom to park on the North yesterday because we would never have
been able to get pictures like this "Last Run" Big Sky sample over
Beauchemin otherwise.
Here's a "Big Sky" reason why we never get bored with the "Fingerprint"
uniqueness of each and every wondrous Tremblant day...
Conditions like this only exist for moments in many cases, and yesterday
was a prime example as in less than 1/2 an hour, the sky turned to a
solid dark overcast and these fiery sunset light show scenes disappeared.
The following is a short "Skitorial", based
on recent "Challenging" conditions...
Are You A "One Trick Pony"?
There's no doubt that Skiing or Boarding on descents with highly variable
surface characteristics present challenges requiring almost instantaneous
adjustments in balance, stance, angulation, speed, edge control and
focus, to name only a few potential factors.
As we were Skiing around yesterday, the Chairlift conversation turned
to this topic because it was a big element in the days enjoyment factor.
Basically, the quicker you can adapt to these variations, the better off
you are in both control and enjoyment as your range of abilities allow you
to compensate on the fly.
When things can be a lot different over the next crest, around the next bend
or on one side or sector of a trail, or the Mountain, you need to be able to think
and react like a cat.
Quick implementation of corrective control techniques in braking, steering
etc., etc., allow you to make the most of any conditions and that's why you
need to have a selection of solid alternate control modes in order to never be
the "One Trick Pony" that becomes confused when anything happens outside
the only way they can act, or in this case, Ski or Board.
Humans tend to be... "creatures of habit", meaning we sometimes get
locked into patterns of behaviour without either realizing it, or having
any willingness to change. When it comes to Skiing, that can lead
to stagnation or worse, the entrenched performance of poor or
inappropriate technique for the conditions.
We all love "Perfect" days, but life's not really like that, so keep an open mind,
practice those different techniques you need, get lessons when you can and
turn every day into a great day with adaptable skills.
We've all heard people blame others or Mother Nature for not handing out
"Perfect" when we know the key to "Perfect" lies within our own skills and
abilities to adapt.
