It May Be Warm, Or It May Be Green....
where ever you you are right now, but at Tremblant...

It's Cool and Winter!

Whoa There, Mother Nature, Minus 22 C, or for our visiting American Cousins,
8 Below Zero F, certainly qualifies as "Cool"!

Quite a bit cooler than the original -16 C forecasted for last night, but if
it does follow through with the "Sunny" part, there should be enough
Solar thermal energy to bring that up a fair way toward the projected
day-time high of -3 C. Frankly though, with an airmass this cool to begin
with, while possible, it's not necessarily likely that it would rise 20 degrees C
during the course of the day, sunny or not.
Time will tell on that one, and we'll try to remember to update that
in Apres Ski notes later on.

On The Other Hand....

The Skiing and Boarding are going to be "Out Of This World"
Fantastic! Nothing Skis like "Squeaky Cold" Snow!

The "Grip","Traction" and "Speed" properties of very cold snow are the
very best that exist, so bundle up and enjoy because today is "Winter"
defined!

You will be able to set your edges into this cold snow with the highest
degree of reliability and confidence as there are comparatively few
glitches and the immaculate grooming of the Mountain Crews Night Shift
will have generated a level of Corduroy that will be very close to flawless.

You Can't Get This Kind Of Corduroy At The Mall....

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski...

Draft/Preview of tomorrow's theme...

Please refer to the above notated Weather Network
Forecast Chart and all contained info./data.

Each Of The Next 5 Days Or So Could Be...

"Best Of Season"

...but for different reasons and to different people.

Firstly, we have a run of quite mild winter in front of us
for these next days, we hope not too mild for the obvious reason
that we don't want to let go of the pure winter snow surfaces we have.
Regardless though, the temps are going to be very very easy to handle.

Secondly, the smaller initial snowfall expected for the next 3 days, up to 5 Cm,
will be easy for the Tremblant Mountain Crews to integrate into the existing base
on a daily basis. For beginners and intermediates the additional, incremental
fresh snow will make the already superb surfaces even better. Any small glitches
that may currently exist will become smaller and less frequent by the day. The
new snow will not be overwhelming, just a steady accumulation that with the
holiday traffic we have now, will add a new dimension of satin-like smoothness
to each morning.

"Best Of Season" for beginners, on up.

Here's where the story becomes more complex...

Thirdly, If... Big If... we actually get anywhere close to the 35 CM of snowfall on
Friday, with an accompanying South wind, for expert Powder Skier/Boarders, it could
simply be the epic day that defines this season, at least so far. A 20 KMPH South wind
could cause massive drifting on the North that could cause localized accumulations of
double the statistical total.

That vast depth of rapid accumulation will require expert technique to navigate in many
sectors of Tremblant's terrain and consequently, beginners and intermediates may find
difficult challenges where the snow depth builds rapidly or with the random variations in
depth that can occur with the wind pushing snow over the Mountains contours.

Mountain Crews will be doing their best to maintain beginner and intermediate terrain,
but with a South wind, even P'tit Bonheur could see significant and very rapid fill rates.

For Example.. We had one similar day last year that with the wind direction, put
knee-deep powder snow on lower Nansen. A very rare occurrence, but it did happen.
(Go To The Mountain Reports Index, Select page 7 and February 2nd, 2011
T360 Daily report archive, to see what a foot of powder looks like on Nansen.)

With any scenario like this, the possibilities can range from Best Case to Worst
Case, so we'll state right up front that the worst case would be rain and warm,
but we don't think that's likely when there's so much supporting consensus
by multiple professional weather forecasters that think we're going to get snow.
Sure, they could be wrong, we'd get out our Descente Poncho's and go
Skiing anyway...

Let's look at the far more hopefully possible... Snow, and tons of it.
If we get it all from Friday through Saturday, it will be a joy for experts,
and adventuresome intermediates with appositive attitude could have lots
of fun experimenting. For outright beginners, Mountain Crews will have terrain,
but it will take a day or two to blend in all the fresh to maximize all the Green
Trails.

That's what we'd call a "Happy Problem". Too Much Snow??? ...Never...

If you are a Local/Regional Tremblant Skier/Boarder, and you can
wrangle time to make it, now would be a good time to put those
plans in place. For Powder Hounds, it could be the most significant
single snow event of the season, and as such, worth the risks of
being ready for the anticipated rewards of very deep, natural Snow.
