4/9/12 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

Apres Ski, Apres Ski...

Preliminary edit....

(You may recall we said: "Snow Potential on North Summit Sectors..."
early this morning... That came true....)

If you could have been at Tremblant, but were not...

You should be put in Jail Because....

Missing any of this was a real Crime!

No one should ever rule out the possibility of great Tremblant
things happening on a day forecasted to be rather dull, and Mother
Nature sure came through with a lot of beautiful Closing Day Surprises!

You Missed all of ....

This....

"Plus" a whole bunch more...

Everyone that we saw at Tremblant was quite happy.
A Small but dedicated and very enthusiastic group out
to get in some excellent, Classic Tremblant.

Now that the panic is off, the full version Apres Ski may be
built on an evolutionary basis over the next several days.

Given that....

You May Ski/Board Tremblant Today....
But you may not Ski/Board Tremblant Tomorrow...

We know where to stand on this issue....

Standing on the Summit, it's not going to be as Sunny today as
either of the last 2 days, BUT...
It's still going to be "OPEN" today, and that's the last time this season
we can say that.

Along with "Open", there's actually a very fine amount of small
white type fresh particles on Tremblant's Summit!

Snow on Summit Sectors at Tremblant?
Sure looks that way from the beloved Web Cams, so no other
choice but to go and verify that with a detailed personal inspection...

We'll get back to ya on that...

If you live regionally, we hope you are not reading this,
meaning of course, that you're already on your way.

If you live regionally, we hope that you put yourself in a
Tremblant picture sometime today.....

Will You Be Here??? Which Way Will You Go???

Above...
There's a lot of "White" in this pic., and that's the point.
We have had closing days with a lot less snow than this
and on top of that, what we have to Ski/Board on is
remarkably fine considering all the recent Weather Drama
that Mother Nature has brought to this entire side of the
continent.

This is a very clear example of the Grip Level to be found
yesterday, and we believe, today as well. The "Angle Of Attack",
or degree of tilted edge this Boarder is riding on is not
only allowing him to hold this edge with 100% confidence,
but there is very little Shredded snow being displaced
which indicates the surfaces ability to be finely carved
by skilled Mountain users who know how to get the most
speed out of ambient damp, Spring Corn Snow.

You can find it here... today only....

Expected Weather... Daytime high @ +3 or 4 C,
Overcast, Mixed precip., and moderate North-West
breezes moving across the Summit from Beauvallon
over to Duncan.

It's Never Easy To Emotionally Handle "Closing Day" ...
...at least for the truly dedicated Tremblant Alpine Winter
Fans we know. All we can do is try to enjoy each and every
run, each and every turn, and each and every minute until
the second hand on the clock passes "12" at 4:00 P.M.

Where will you be for "Last Run"?

Apres Ski 2011/12, Apres Ski...

Go "FullScreen" for pic's if possible.

In, and of it's own right, closing day was an
exceptionally interesting day, highlighted by intense,
localized, snow-squall activity, with very quick "fill rates",
accumulations, and almost winter-like Summit Snow surfaces.

Please Note: Many of the pic's herein have had contrast, white balances,
definition, filtration or other modifications due to either heavy snowfall, or
grey light that rendered some detail soft or lacking and we have tried to set
Surface Quality/Characteristics as a priority.

Below...
Not a fancy "Trick" Park shot, not a super-fast, lightning, speed racer shot either...
but there should be no doubt when you look at this, that abundant Natural
Snow over an immaculately groomed base is very close to "wonderful"
for a seasons final day. Bittersweet in that we can not go back today for
more of it, but there's an element of that no matter when closing day comes.

With properly prepared bases, even though things got soft soon...
there was good speed in many areas.

The higher elevations of North Summit Sectors had the best performing
snow in terms of quick. Riding up the Lowell Thomas Triple for either
"Rope Tow" "Beauchemin" or "P'tit Bonheur" circuits was very popular.

There would be many that would debate preferences for a Super Sunny
Closing Day with all the brightness and panoramic vista's, but on the other
hand, the quiet, almost intimate feeling of being surrounded by this
beautiful snowfall gave Closing Day a surreal Mid-Winter ambience that
made complete sense as a nostalgic connection to a very fine Winter Season.

There were many moments that took your mind directly to Mid-Winter
frames of reference, until "Closing Day" came through, and flashed you
back to reality.

Typical of most "Closing Days", the attendance was mostly experts
out for one last blast before Summer...

Surprisingly, we've seen tons of people in Lessons over the last
week and yesterday there were beginners out having fun too.
The fresh snowfall did not seem to cause any problems that
conservative speed and a good basic Snowplow turn couldn't handle.

The "Best Seat In The House" for North Park Tricks was right on
the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair and virtually every ride up, there
were tricks galore.

There was one exception to the Lowell Thomas "Best Seat" for Park Tricks
and we just happened to be there at precisely the right moment...

But first... we've spent quite a few hours this winter hanging at the top
Jump on Rope Tow because with the distant hills as background, tricks on
this feature look like they take place in space....

With that said, we've been wanting a good, clean inverted trick pic.,
but just never been there at the right moment, so it's very fitting indeed,
that we were there for this one on Closing Day....

Very very nice height and super clean launch and rotation. It would
have been more dramatic as a pic with the inverted rider against
a far distant hilly background, but even now, with the Snowfall
obscuring the long view, this trick really stands out and puts
all the focus on the rider. Well Done!

We have quite a few more closing day pic's to sort through,
so as time permits over the next while we'll add 'em in.
Check back whenever, and have a safe happy summer.

Please remember, you can always... 24/7/365, take a visual Winter trip to
Tremblant by going to the index page for this Mountain Report forum and scrolling
back through the Archive pages to the dates, weeks, months or years you'd like
to review.
