Imagine yourself in this picture....

Telephoto's in heavy snow are never a good photo environment.
But, as lacking as it is, this sample does make the point about
abundant snow that makes it useful for those that can identify.

In a sense, we're lucky that conditions that are really bad for
photography are really good for skiing. Experienced Skiers
will instantly identify with being in this heavy snow scenario
so while not "photogenic" in the postcard way, they will want
to be in this picture anyway...

Todays Weather...

Temps are supposed to be floating around the freezing mark,
up or down by one or two, so with some natural snowfall and the
ambient overcast, it will seem like a warm winter day for the most part.

The wind is moderate to light and currently from the East, so coming
up the Mountain on the Duncan side and crossing the Summit towards
McCulloch/Beauvallon. We anticipate a shift in wind direction later on
in the day to the North, but the best guess at this stage is that will not
be 'til Apres Ski.

A very easy day to dress for, temp wise, anyway.

Conditions... Excellent on anything with a previous base.
...on some of the newly opened terrain, you will need to keep
a watch for debris or natural hazards that may occur.
It's not mid February or a mid winter base yet, so use
common sense and explore cautiously for initial transits.

As we have had personal message inquiries on the Gondola status,
we'll try to find out more on all that, if we can.

Apparently, there may be some contradictory forecast indications on wind
and speed as the Official Snow Report says the Gondola is off-line due to strong
winds expected.

We are not privy to anything other than publicly available weather
information, that at this stage, show wind forecasts with peak velocities
at 17 KPH.

We're not sure about this case but we know Ski Resorts may sometimes
use independent Weather Consultants for more precise information that
can enhance predictive accuracy for any number of strategic planing priorities
like Lift Operations Safety or Snowmaking resources forecasting for examples.

We always default to support the Mountain Operations Group. These folks
are Pro's and we would much rather they are over-cautious, and pro-actively
reduce risks.

One thing we can deduce from observing the Globally available Tremblant
Web Cams is that there is still snow in the summit trees. Typically,
wind velocities strong enough to halt Gondola travel, would easily blow
the snow out of these trees as they are so exposed to the turbulence
of the wind swirling over the Summit from any direction, but the settled
snow in these tree boughs suggest that has not happened since this snow
arrived yesterday.

We specifically say "typically" and "suggest" above because these are
not absolutes and say if there had been a lot of dampness that caused
the snow to be hard ice frozen to the trees that gave it better wind resistant
bonding, for only one example, we could be wrong.

Our best advise on what's open is to make the best of it
by finding terrain within the Open available that you can enjoy
and then stick with it. This is still early season and as good as it
is, there are perfectly normal temp and weather variables that
have not yet stabilized into mature Winter patterns yet and can affect
what is available from day to day.

We often think of all the skiing we do before Christmas as the training
for everything that comes after the Holidays, like January, February, March
and April and we're 1000% thrilled to have as much as we do or can, right
now, every single day.

There will be quiet lulls in the winds, like this moment riding
up the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair, when things will seem very
peaceful surrounded by fresh snowfall. Sunny days are great,
but the intimate feel and soft contrasts of snowy grey days are
very special too.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
