As we sit before the screen early this A.M. thinking about
"Le thème du jour", it struck us that the open trail count
is way up over last season at this time. We felt then, the theme
should be about how fortunate we are to have had such great
Seasons Opening and the steady expansion of Open Trails.

Exactly How Fortunate Are We?

Last year on this date, we had 12 South Trails and 9 North Trails
for a total of 21 on 168 acres.

This year, 22 South, 30 North, and 1 Edge for a total of 53 on 367 acres.

That's an impressive difference and way better for this year. Furthermore,
what we think may even be just as, if not more significant, is what
that represents to the seasons base.

Important Info. For Tremblant Trip/Visit Planners....

The early establishment of the seasons base and the number of Open Trails
on Opening Day this season, may be a historical record for any Tremblant
Winter season, ever.

In our opinion, this will be the factor that is singularly going to be the most
important component of a very long and durable season, with the proviso
that future weather patterns stay within the range of normal statistical
averages for seasonal temperatures and natural snowfall.

What has brought us to this point of accelerated Open terrain has been the
consistent early season sub-zero temps, plus the effects of Hurricane Sandy
that we believe have cumulatively generated better than average conditions
for reducing the core temperature of the Mountain quickly, and consequently
produced a better environment for Snowmaking and the retention of both
Natural and Blown snow as well. We predicted this potential back on Oct. 30th,
2012 (**)

Whether you can make it to Tremblant tomorrow, or it's going
to be a while yet, you can look forward to conditions that are
very fine in both quality and coverage. It's been a great start
to the season and there is every promise that will continue on
from this point.

You need to pay close attention to todays
Open Trail List, particularly on the North.

----------------Archival Addition Webcam Pic's --------------

There was much negative conversation on the social media
about the Gondola being off-line, but we think it may have been a
good idea for the following reason.

We wondered, and it is pure speculation because we do not have
any confirmation, if the Gondola was off-line due to an anticipated
heavy ice accumulation on the cable and de-railer cable clamp
mechanisms. A incident of very heavy ice formation on cables
last season caused an extremely difficult situation where crews
literally had to pound off the ice by hand and lifts were down for
a day and a half as we recall(subject to corrections). What makes us
think this may have been a pro-active strategy is that the Gondola cars
were completely removed from the cable as this web cam snap shot shows.

By the following morning, the Gondola cars were back on the cable
and that's when we began to wonder about the ice issue. Ice on the
cables and cars not only prevents movement and use, but represents
ton's and ton's of weight, an extreme load that can not be good for the
cable, so we think if this was a way to prevent damage, it was a brilliant
way to reduce risk and work.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
