1/3/13 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

---------- 12:19 A.M. Update: -----------------------

Open Trail Count Jumps from 78 to 93, on Saturdays preliminary
Snow report.

---------------------------------------------------------

T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 7:45 P.M.

3 quick items for Apres Ski Edit. If we can add more later, we will,
otherwise, pack up the vehicle now so you don't have to waist any time
doing it in the morning.

1) This is pretty much what we had to deal with at Tremblant
for most of the day...

2) The Official Snow Report Listed South Park Adrenaline as open
and silly us, we thought that was the big, bottom jump line. As you
can see below, that was not the case. Not only were the Mountain
Crew Groomers still building and shaping, they were using a 2 unit
tag team and Winch Grooming using the uphill machine as the cable
anchor. You can see the cable running forward and over the jump.

3) And by no means the least, but with all this New Snow
if you are a regional Tremblant fan within a short drive,
your weekend plans should be featuring Tremblant!

Hurry and Buckle Up Dude... We gotta go!

Of course... Conditions are excellent, grip and traction are universally
very high performance. Carving until you run out of muscle is
a sweet little reminder pain that tells you why you love Skiing so much!

--------------- 6:35 A.M. Orig. Post --------------------

78(*) Open Trails on 3 sides of Tremblant.

Soleil sector is Off-Line today and the Official Snow Report states
the reason as being for safety in the event of a stoppage at
these very cold temperatures. It also shows a considerable amount
of daytime snowmaking in that area, so it's being "refreshed" as well,
prior to the last big Holiday Weekend.

Keeping in mind that the abundant, early season snowfall has
created a far more than normal "Open" list for this date, the
Snowmaking that is regularly scheduled months in advance
for now, continues on.

This pic. below was taken yesterday at around 3:30 P.M. as a
telephoto from just above the base of the TGV on mid Beauvallon.

Snowmaking, either natural or blown, is a resource that needs
to be "Banked" for the future of the seasons Quality and Durability.
So, regardless of how much Natural Snow falls, Crews will be adding
to that and we'll get the benefit all throughout the season in the form of
better coverage of irregular surface contours, so a smoother, more
consistant base quality, as well as the improved base depth which we'll
appreciate in late March, early April.

The net effect is that todays surfaces are a very fine, dry, almost dust-like
snow particle that has a very high mechanical bonding capability when compressed
by skis or boards when traveled over. This is what we'll feel as "Grip"
when setting an edge to make a turn and you can see that here in the
sharpness of the traversed tracks running through this photo below.

Looking across Beauvallon in this one below, we're trying to
illustrate what we refer to as the "Shred Depth", or how far
into the surface will a set edge cut to give you a stable
track that won't give way, that will hold you without sliding off
the path you've set. While this Boarder is not making the most
aggressive of turns here, it does reveal the surfaces loose top layer
and we would say that the Shred Depth here is about 2.5 inches
or 6.5 CM.

This consistent carve-able surface is covering about 98% of all
the Groomed terrain at Tremblant right now. It is the art of
Grooming and Packing here at Tremblant that we think makes
for such steady, reliable fun. There are/may be some glitch prone
areas where the powerful recent winds have left icy or slick bits,
but they are very minor and occur predictably in patterns around
primarily steeper pitches, over some crests or very high traffic
concentrations for example.

We absolutely love exploring to find the scenic background for
our "Proof of Snow" pic's and none of them are ever more than
3 to 5 meters away from the edge of an Open Trail, so they are
all totally real and relevant to the conditions found on either the
Groomed or Natural, Un-Groomed Officially Open Trails they are
taken beside.

This stunningly beautiful scene above, is less than 3 meters from the packed,
groomed side of P'tit Bonheur. It is the reason Tremblant is in such
magnificent early season condition.

It is the reason you should be planning to visit Tremblant as soon as you can,
as often as you can, and for as long as you can.

Taken in the late, long shadowed afternoon at "Last Run" on Versant Nord,
the North Side. The wind does not exist in this quiet sheltered space. Time
seems to stand still and there is no perceptible sound. The Snow covering
everything acts as a sound absorber, so you are literally insulated from
all external signs of human evidence in this picturesque little Nirvana.
This is the magic of Mother Nature at Tremblant.

ATTENTION Adrenaline South Park Fans!!!

Shows "OPEN" on today's Official Snow Report!

This pic. below is from "Last Run" yesterday and it shows the park
is very close to done with the main features all built up and really
only the surface finishing and final shaping left to do.

We trust the list, so evidently the finishing was completed overnight.
We'll try to get a pic or two over there today.

Today's Weather... Cold, so dress for it. It got down to -29C in St.Jovite
at about 2:00 A.M., but by 6:30, before the sunrise, it had already risen to
-23C, so the warmer air masses expected over the next few days might be
influencing that rise already.

Supposed to be sunny and it is, sort of, with a lot of brightness and
a bit of a faint, very thin hazy whiteness up there. "They" are forecasting
cloud to move in this aft. as well as a steady rise in temps over the next
24 Hours. Thank goodness, 'cause it's been freezing! This aft. may see
-14C and by noon tomorrow, it's supposed to go up to about -4C, so that's
as much as a 24 degree C rise which is a huge difference in the comfort
factor.

Winds are almost calm, supposed to come up a bit, and if they do, they'll
be South, Sou-West, so moving across the Summit from the Soliel side
towards P'tit Bonheur.

These temps are always easier with little/no wind, so quite a bit
nicer than what we've come through in the past 3 chilly, blustery days.

Don't forget to spend some time on the Edge at Tremblant!

It's Cool out for sure, but the Skiing/Boarding is remarkably fine
on "Squeaky" dry snow that inspires confidence and is close to
flawless.

For Weekend Tremblant Regional Fans... The forecast rise in temps
over the next 24 hours is going to make things a lot easier to handle.
Be sure to make Tremblant's exceptionally fine conditions the centre
of your weekend activity.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
