1/5/13 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit... Under construction @ 6:45 P.M.

It was definitely cooler than the weather forecasters
thought it might be for today, but not as cool as two days ago...
not even close.

The warmest place outright was the Resort South Side Base at Johannsen.
It was almost warm there. Second warmest was the top of Johannsen's rise,
where Beauvallon comes out to it.

Below:

The second warmest place at the top of Johannsen. Not too breezy,
obviously nice and bright and you could feel the sun on your back riding
up Flying Mile.

Look at the Snow Surface in this pic above. Tracking/Carving capabilities
at very high levels. Lot's 'a grip, you could hook up with a very solid
edge and drive or ride through all the turns your muscles could make.

If there were any icy bit's out there, we never found them, so the traction
we talk about above was from top to bottom and universally good.

Today's attendance was good, for sure, but the lines were not all that bad.
The peak "After Lunch" wait at the Gondola was about 12-15 min's the one time
we ended up there, so we hopped on Flying Mile with only a 2 minute wait in
the singles line and then up on the TGV with about a 4.5 min wait, again in
the singles line.

At the top of Flying Mile we snapped a bunch and we thought this one is
kinda' cool... extreme telephoto to Lower Taschereau where Ski School's
in session! Below:

Up at the Summit, the wind was at a significantly higher velocity than
anywhere else, no surprise, just a lot more than forecast all the way
'round.

The Scenery and the Conditions however....
were more than enough to make you forget a bit of cool in fingertips.

Below:
The Snow is a very light, dry , wind and machine packed fine crystal
that is what we would call "Cold Formed" at the lower ranges of
Mother Natures Snow Production Temp's. The wind packed top layer
disintegrates into dust on contact and the groomed surfaces with this
primary component packed into Corduroy are very fast with excellent
edge hold.

------- end of update--------------

These are 3 samples of what you'll find this morning from a couple
of days ago, our last sunny day, but with one difference...

The One Big Difference Is....

There's more Snow.

Wow...

More Snow???

Oh Yeah!

(This is an inside joke we have with some of our U.K. London Group
who we had a running gag with using the "Oh Yeah!" meal replacement
protein bar wrappers as a photo prop/ Comic Strip Text Bubble for random
pic scenario humour, so we hope they get a kick out of it today!)

The rest of the weather picture is that it's colder than was predicted,
so we're looking at a daytime high around -10C, or 14 F, but under very
sunny sky's. There will definitely be thermal energy from the sun
in any sheltered trailside locations.

During the day, the winds are forecast to be light and from the South,
perhaps swinging around to the west later on. Basically, the breezes
should be crossing the Summit from the Soleil sector towards P'tit Bonheur.

From Yesterday... More reasons today will be spectacular!

As you can see from the first one above, it was snowing heavily, so
the telephoto below is trying to look through all that snow which is
sort of acting as a filter, so sorry for fuzzy around the edges,
but we thought it makes a pretty good point about the conditions...
Powder Expert Fun!

Conditions:

Groomed should be like Smooooth carpet... 'til traffic
cuts it up... use caution as the day goes on.

Un-Groomed, should be fine, but for experts only and watch out
for natural hazards. With loads of Holiday Guests, narrower
Natural Snow runs can get scraped down, so watch for that.

Conditions Caveat:

Matching Skills to posted trail skill levels is very critical today.
Heavy Snowfall is not easy for some, so you need to be realistic
and observant because today is the kind of day that can actually have
a green "Easy" run marked with an "Experts Only" sign, due to the
advanced skills required to navigate deep and/or deep and tracked up
heavy snow that could send the average beginner head over heels.

Pay attention to temporary or "a La Carte" hand placed Trail signs
put up by the Ski Patrol in areas they identify as different than the permanent
Trail signs.

Out to see the Shapes Of Nature Today?

We can show you this....

It's a simple fact...

Tremblant is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

The final Christmas/New Years Holiday Weekend!

Traffic everywhere will probably be heavier,
on Roads, and on Ski/Board Trails too...

Allow extra time to get places and be patient while en-route,
it's a busy time for everyone, so take a deep breath, and chill!

Your best shot for vertical at Tremblant today is most likely
by using the Singles lines on the North.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
