Hey! It's only supposed to be -30C out there!

Well, get ready to set your Personal Cold Weather Story Telling
at what may be a new level if you have not experienced this yet....

Keep in mind that the temperature scales of Centigrade and Fahrenheit
Cross at -40, so we're only 4 Degrees C away from that at
33 Degrees Below Zero F, for our visiting American cousins....

This is Extreme Caution Territory for temps and we do not advise kids
being out this morning until the sun takes the edge off the cold for
at least a couple of hours.

This might be what we'd call "One Run(at a time) Weather", and you will know
exactly what we mean right after you take one run...

The Laws Of Physics....

Skis work on Snow the way Skates work on Ice. Friction along the
fine edge contacting the surface generates a molecular thin layer of water
that acts as a lubricant and facilitates Glide. At these temps it's border-line
too cold for that to occur with skis, so the forward resistance level goes way
up and it can feel like you may be held back... Due to this phenomenon,
you can ski steeper runs with a natural braking effect to help control
descent.

It may be a great day to give "Expo" a shot!

Back to Yesterday for a moment...

It was basically a sunny day, and you can see that very plainly here with
Shadows... Sharp Shadows too, so there was a lot of direct Sunlight where
it could get thorough.

Looking at the top of this pic. above, shows that Snowmaking starts
right close to the South Resort Base on Johannsen and that extends all
the way to the Summit at different concentrations. It was somewhat
responsible for a mini-Weather system developing around the Summit
and extending down the North Side.

Below:
By the time you reach the Summit, the local Snowmaking "Weather"
has set in and vision can be a challenge from time to time. The Shred
Depth is very clearly evident here though and as stated before, the
speed and grip are universally excellent because of the dryness and
smoothness of the top layers.

Below:
Over on the North, the "breezes" have created many pleasant small
to medium size drifting features that on the groomed, have been worked
into the surface, and on the un-groomed, look like this:

Worth Repeating.....
The Grip Level and General Performance characteristics of the Snow Surfaces
are outstanding....

The challenge is not to Ski well, that's a piece of cake on these
beautifully smooth surfaces.... the challenge for yesterday and
even more-so today, is to stay warm enough to do it for any sustained
time periods.

This cold weather thing is not to be taken lightly. It is not a novelty
and it can do serious damage to any exposed skin in seconds. Be very
cautious with children.

Other than that... it's a great day!

Oh, and there will be perceptible "Heat" in the Solar array today...
if you can find a sunny, wind and snowmaking, sheltered spot.

Extended Weather Outlook...

Skiing/Boarding....Extremely Excellent.

Weather..... Extreme.

The decision is yours, but we'll be there anyway,
so see ya on the slopes.... maybe???

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski, Late Night Edition at 11:55 P.M.

Cold, Fast, cold, smooth, cold, scenic spectacular, cold, but actually
not that hard to handle as it's a dry cold, with relatively light winds.

Not that hard a cold to deal with as the scenery would distract you from any
discomforts, and there was so much to look at around every bend of the trail...

Any Aircraft Pilot in the readership will instantly understand that one of the Human
points of susceptibility at these temps is "Air Speed", the speed at which you
move through the air with your own motion. Net Air Speed may lower with a
"Tail Wind" and net Air Speed may increase with a "Head Wind", so either way
today, that "Air Speed" found its way into any nook or cranny. Any sliver, even a
tiny, tiny gap, would mean Frostbite potential. You could feel any tiny gaps almost
instantly with little piercing pin-pricks of skin pain. It was a great day for refining
your exterior envelope and ensuring tight, effective seals.

In the absence of seals, you were toast... keeping the wind speed out was of
paramount importance, and seals/overlaps were the best way to do that.

There was resistance in the forward motion on the snow, caused by the
absolute low temperature, but it was not critical and in some ways, a bit
confidence building, you could face the fall line directly with enhanced
control and braking was a snap.

This Is A Test... Is it... ????

Last Run: Corduroy

Answer... "C" .... all of the above!

Where da' hell is everyone!?!?!?!

There is no reason on earth why this Corduroy should still
be here at the end of the day. It should be tracked up, hacked up
and generally looking very well used by Last Run.... But there it
is! Where are you?

Cold or not... if you could be here for this and you make another choice...
you're missing one of the great opportunities of the season. We love our
snow cold and despite the challenges that dressing for it includes, we'll
miss it dearly when it has passed, all of which will happen far to fast
as the delicate winter balance shifts with the sun rising in the sky.

Conditions this good are fleeting and fragile, soon to change when
moderate winter temps return. Go now, if you can, and experience
Pure Winter, Pure Tremblant.
