T360 Apres Ski, under Construction, Below, in “Reply" @ 10:45 P.M.
Welcome To February at Tremblant!
A time we think of as the "Heart of Winter"...
1) A great place to have that Romantic Valentine's Get-Away....
(you've still got 2 weeks to plan it!)
2) It can be Mild, and it can definitely be Wild, but it's
typically some of the most consistent Pure Winter Coverage
and Snow Condition periods of the season.
We just Love February!

T360 Apres Ski Intro. Edit at 5:45 P.M.
Regional Tremblant Weekend Fans...
Any day that ends up looking like this, is a great day...
no matter what.
So Get Out and get some Fresh Air!
Forget whether or not it's Skis Or Board... that's not important...
The only thing you need to remember to bring to Tremblant is
your .... Edges.... and make sure they're SHARP!
If you understand this, then you get the Big Picture....
There are icy sectors that require caution. There are good carving zones.
Typical "Post Thermal" recovery phase. Winter Cold Wind, but Solar Energy
Feel in any safe, quiet, wind sheltered, sunny Trail side spot.
nICE winter day!
(that's a weather pun, it's not that bad and still really fun. You just
need to focus on fundamental technique with smoothness because
jerky movements will break your traction loose in some sectors.)
More later in Apres Ski below.

50(*) Open Trails on the dramatically expanding South and North
Slopes of Tremblant.
Today we feature the work of Tremblant Mountain Grooming Crews,
the artists behind the controls of the Powerful Machines that are
working around the clock to Open as much terrain as possible...
as soon as possible.
Actually, if you really think about it, we feature their work every single
time we talk about the excellence of their results which we all benefit
from, right from day one of each season.
All those miles and miles, kilometre after kilometre of simply beautiful
Corduroy Groomed Trail Surfaces are here for Mountain guests each and
every day because of their efforts.
This then, is a very good reason to be at Tremblant today....
Yesterday at Tremblant was a day of tremendous activity, to say the least.
Obviously, it was snowing a lot form time to time, in squalls that
moved over the Mountain Quickly. The activity of Mountain Crews Working
around the clock to restore surfaces and Terrain features. Mountain Guests
actively exploring all the Open terrain for the best lines of descent on
restored Trails getting fresh snow. It all added up to lot's going on everywhere
you look!
Here is another one...
We're fascinated by machinery to begin with, so the sophisticated
design of the BR350 Groomer/Packer is interesting for it's own sake,
let alone it's importance to Tremblant's surface quality.
Above: Look a very small distance above the exhaust stack of this BR350
and you'll see heat wave distortion in the view of the tree boughs behind.
This unit is pushing a small wall of mixed sized broken up surface as it
heads toward the Summit of McCulloch and it is working very efficiently
under load to do so. Those Hot, Clean Heat waves are a sign of well
tuned equipment...
...and that takes us to Tremblant's conditions today that will also respond
to well tuned equipment for best results... the fresh edges of Skis and Boards.
Above: Typical Surfaces at Tremblant from now through the next
several days. A mix of Granular particle sizes that are cold and have
almost no moisture internally, so are loose with good speed and
steering. Braking efficiency is related to the depth of loose surface,
so where wide open high traffic or windblown has revealed the icy
base, extreme caution is necessary. Otherwise, snowplows and skidded
stops are easy and safe where there's good top layer depth.
In the sectors that have received the most natural snow, the integrated
mix renders a very smooth, quick surface with good carving, but because
the depth can be irregular over the firm base, we recommend that for today
and the next several days, caution with speed on initial explorations is
critical for safety.
Conditions Caveat:
A lot of what we have today has been shaped by yesterdays very powerful
winds, so observe carefully, be aware of surface patterns, and do not
make any assumptions about un-explored terrain. Safety first, always.
Control Speed at all times, watch out for traffic, icy base sectors and keep
in mind that conditions can change during the day with wear, wind, and
traffic volume.
"A lot of what we have today has been shaped by
yesterdays very powerful winds."
This wild display of tremendous wind energy features
a Tornado-like Snow Funnel that was literally going
down La Crete from the Summit in a spinning white-out
that "Disappeared" any people from view as it passed.
About a Minute Later...
If you saw the mate to this Pic in yesterday's Apres Ski, you might recall
that there was no surface Boundary Layer visible... a few seconds later...
BAM... instant, and very high speed surface snow. It's this type of wind
activity that generates much of the surprise drifting that we love to look for.
About 2 Minutes After That....
Talk about contrast...
The entire right side of P'tit Bonheur, from the first Trail turn down,
was a magic carpet of Smoothly Drifted Natural Snow Delight!
Silky, Satin, Soft, 'n Smooth!
The Joy In All Of This .... No matter what Ski Resort you may find
yourself at, Windy Winter Weather is a potential. What we continuously
are amazed by at Tremblant is the presence of sheltered sectors...
no matter what. The 360 degree spread of Tremblant's various sides, South,
North, Soleil, and Edge as seen from overhead, means that there is always
a "Lee" side, wind sheltered sector.
Typically, 100's of acres of sheltered terrain will always be available
to rely on, even on the windiest of winter days.
Welcome back to steady winter....
Today and tomorrow very similar with partial Sun, and day-time high
temp around -15 C, 5 above F, so definitely winter temps especially
at cooler Summit elevation levels. Today's wind is moderate and from
the west, so at your back riding up TGV and on the Summit, moving from
McCulloch towards Lowell T.
Over the next few days...
Conditions will see daily, incremental improvements in both Open terrain
and the quality as fine, loose top layers are restored, repacked an groomed
in repeated cycles. Mountain Guest Traffic will help too, so be sure to get
out and do your part!

Above:
While there was certainly some erosion of the Bush Snow from the
recent warm, wet weather, there is still quite a depth, particularly on
the North. Look at the difference in the Ski Pole height as a very rough
measure of depth. Actual Trail Base depth may be greater than this due
to the daily Grooming compression of layer upon layer that is very
well chilled by the deep frost of the season and has proven itself to be
remarkably sturdy throughout the occasional warm wet weather incidents.
