Oh Yeah... Winter's alive and very well at Tremblant!

The stat's might say one thing about the South Base Daytime High Temp,
but the wind on the Mountain was howling out another idea altogether...
Bundle up or freeze yer butt off!

Riding up TGV, as pictured above, the wind was at your back almost
perfectly, so "warm" came through, even though the trees were moving
quite a bit beside you as you neared the Summit. Basically, your "Airspeed"
was almost Zero riding on TGV as the Chair was moving in the same direction
as the wind, cancelling out most of it's effect.

Maintaining the integrity of your exterior envelop was absolutely critical to
comfort and we really did not hear to much in the way of "Cold" complaints.
As usual, it was much less severe for anyone that did not have to repeatedly
open their jacket or take gloves off to deploy a camera every few minutes like
we do to get the pic's you see here every day.

Actually, it was warmer out than yesterday and coming up the Duncan Quad
there was a spot just below where Vanier crosses underneath where the wind
was very light and even though it was only momentarily, you could definitely
feel "Warmth" from Solar energy.

While you're looking at this one above, check out the depth of the New Snow
we've gotten in the last few days by the tracks through it.

Light, Dry, Very Fast, Really Fun!!!

More in the morning... go if you can...

Big rise in temp's to just below freezing, South Base.
Summit and all Mountain Surfaces should stay sub-zero.
More Snow??? ...it's in the forecast.

If you have complaints about today's Groomed conditions...

you'd have to be nuts, because after all Mother Natures Up 'n Down
Weather Drama over recent weeks, Tremblant has come out way
ahead of all it's regional peers, many of whom have experienced
significant warm, wet this past week while "Up North" here...

....we got to have Pure, Snow White Winter!

We are so lucky to have these immaculately prepared surfaces with
almost infinite grip for high performance carving on terrain for all
skill levels.

We do not mean to dwell on the following, but we are frequently criticized
for being "Too Positive", so as a "get real" clause...

There are some relatively minor glitches that require short traverses...
the most frequently encountered one yesterday was probably the short
chunk of maybe 20 metres or so at the very top of Beauchemin, right off
La Crete at the Summit that was "Icy" but not ice. It was more like just
rock hard compacted snow. We'd been crossing it with 3 or 4 quick shallow
turns on razor sharp 160cm 11metre radius Slalom race skis without
so much as a thought, when it was pointed out by one of our group that
beginners trying to get to P'tit Bonheur on typical "once or twice a year"
generic gear where struggling there. Point noted. It was also noted that the
sides of that same section were much softer and easier than the middle,
but evidently, beginners don't seem to use anything else.

(As a utility note for all skill levels... better, softer, smoother surfaces
are often found on the sides of worn, slick centre portions. If an area
seems too slick, traverse out to one or both sides to find probably better
snow.)

That's life at any Ski Resort. It's why we often talk about Speed caution in
"High Traffic", "Over Crests" or relatively "Steep Pitches" sectors.
The example above is not a very steep pitch, but it's not flat either,
so with all the traffic there it is a high wear zone for sure.

Moving Forward... For all but the fussiest picky people...
Everything Open, is Excellent!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
