We say "Springy" in the page opening sentence above, because
there are quite a few "Progressive" trail openings on the list first
thing this morning due to the commencement of the daily "Spring"
temperature cycles.... so there are trails that they will wait to open
as the surfaces soften after they've frozen up over a Sub-zero overnight.

That's fine with us. "Spring" is inevitable, but as long as there's
solidly sub-zero overnights, the stability of the base remains optimized
by the frost "momentum" of stored cold within the Mountain. We say
this a lot... now is when we're glad for all those -20, -30 C pure winter
nights that drive the frost so deeply into the Mountain where it's stored
for the long days of "Spring" that are starting now.

This ambient cold storage within the Mountain is the main reason Tremblant's
very fine base and excellent coverage can endure so well into the long
sunny days of Spring.... and, on top of that.... statistically at least, there's
still great odd's of lots more natural snow!

Generally, today's Skiing and Boarding will be very fine, especially
on the freshly groomed, however there will be very "Firm" sectors
due to overnight low temps, so....

Spring Safety Caveats In Effect...
Use caution on initial exploration. There may be icy bits and
natural hazards that occur due to daily weather warm/cold cycles
as well as traffic wear factors.

We do not expect to see any loss of Open Terrain in the near future,
but it may be possible that terrain is taken off the list for preservation
during a warm wet period to save it from the rapid snow loss that can
be caused by traffic. This is more often on un-groomed terrain that does
not get any Snowmaking.

The Weather picture for the extended near term outlook i.e. beginning
of this week is changing fairly rapidly, some for the better, some
for the worse, so here it is...

The rainy Monday forecast which we talked about extensively a couple
of days ago with an annotated graphic, has changed quite a lot.
The good part, if you can call it that, is that the chance of precipitation
for Monday has fallen from what was a high mark of 80% down to
40% as of this morning. The bad part, which is very much subject to
change anyway, is that the Tuesday forecast has switched from
light rain at 70% chance with a daytime high of +3 C, to 90%
chance together with an increase in the temps to +5 C and the
ugliest part of all, a high Sou-West wind. Fortunately, there is a frontal
event expected into Wed., so the temps will drop back below freezing
but obviously, things could be messy for a day or two.

Get out your Descente' Poncho's people, there's a very high probability
you'll need 'em early this week.

It seems like more of a long shot now than it did a few days ago, but there is
still a possibility of Orographic Snow Precipitation on Summit and North Sectors
during the next 3 days. We will let you know how that all works out.

So then, some high temps and rain, followed by some below zero
means your also gunna need your edges sharp, that is if you want
any control. Time to see the folks at Le Ski Shop at the foot of
the Cabriolet in the Chalet Des Voyageurs if you have not recently
done so.

Go Now....

but if you can... Go with sharp edges.

"Firm" morning conditions after Sub-zero nights mean
that for optimized utility and safety, sharp edges will
maximize all aspects of performance, including, but not
limited to, lateral carving grip, speed control, steering,
braking, emergency stopping and accident avoidance, etc.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
