T360 Apres Ski... Under Construction @ 6:00 P.M.

We had a little problem with photography today, but when you scroll
down through to the Apres Ski posted below, you'll see what we mean...

Very heavy Snowfall commenced at Tremblant at 8:30 A.M.

Believe it or not, we were doing a drop-off at the South Resort Base
when it started, so on the way out we stopped for this pic. looking
at the Mountain from the other side of Lac Tremblant.

The wind is so strong it's frequently blowing the snow sideways.

The South Side Lift System is Closed, access by North only, Shuttles running.

South Resort Base level temps holding at -1C.

Summit should be about -5, -6 C with all "Winter" conditions.

7:15 A.M. April 12th, 2013 Up-Date...

50(*) Open Trails on the South and North Sectors of Tremblant.

No change this morning from the preliminary Open Trail count.

Without the benefit of any "Yesterday" experience, all we can do
is look at the list, warm up the car, and head for the Mountain to
see for ourselves how well our precious winter snow surfaces have
survived over since Sunday.

In one sense, it seems like an eternity, and with the pleasant bright
and sunny days that have gone by this week, looking longingly at the
Web Cams, we've been anxiously hoping for the best.

The week of no Skier/Boarder traffic and the good, solid shape of the
base as we left it at "Last Run" on Sunday, lead us to think that what
we'll have will be very fine. In our favour, even though there has
been some solar energy around, the pristine white snow surface will
have reflected off a lot of it. The almost complete absence of any brown
spots/zones(so common to this time of year) last Sunday, is another
reason we are thinking very positively about what we'll find today.

To our Friends and fellow Tremblant Fans around the world that can't be here...
we miss you, and every turn that we are privileged to make over this closing
weekend will be in your honour.

There's a fresh charge on the Camera's batteries, lot's of space on the
memory so we look forward to Apres Ski today to share the detail of what's
left of winter in mid-April.

While Tremblant is forecasted to get only Snow today... the rest of the
North-East Coast of North America is getting a huge freezing rain/rain
and very high wind event that is tracking from West to East causing
all kinds of havoc. The line above which it is snow, somehow appears to
be immediately to the South of St. Jovite, so dodging that major
Weather bullet and getting snow is a very big bonus, and at any other
time of the Alpine Winter season would mean an increase in the
Open Trail Count.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens, but at the very least,
anything approaching the forecasted 20 some-odd CM's, over 8 inches,
in the next 24 hours will make it "Interesting"!

Please Note: Tremblant has been closed this past week, so this Orig.
Posting is a day early Preliminary Report for the Bonus Weekend
starting tomorrow morning.

Open Trail Count(*) unknown at this time.

At the time of this posting, there is no Official Tremblant.ca preliminary
Snow Report for April 12th, 2013.

The last Open day, Sunday, April 7th, 2013, saw an Open Trail Count of 68(*)
on the South and North Sides of Tremblant with the Edge and Soleil Sectors
closed.

Get Ready For "Great"...
on everything that's Open...

Below: This was last Sunday, 4 days ago, and in our opinion, nothing major,
weather wise has happened to diminish it substantially. Quite simply, there's
way too much snow around for this coming weekend to be anything other
than Excellent for the middle of April!

Taken less than a week ago, this scene should be very much the same if
it's included in the Open Terrain for tomorrow!

The unusually high quality and unusually extensive coverage of the
Mountain with a mature winter-like base as it existed on Sunday,
together with the absence of any rain in during this weeks days it has
been closed, would suggest the possibility to us that the range of Open
Trails could be anywhere, plus or minus around the 60 mark. It could
be greater, contingent upon any potential of Edge or Soleil Sector Terrain
being made available.

Those sectors were not closed because there was no snow on them, so the
range of possibly open trails may be dependant on how much terrain
Tremblant's Management is able to logistically support with available
resources for this upcoming Bonus weekend extension of the Winter Season.

Of course, Tremblant Fan Skiers and Boarders will always want as much
of the Mountain accessible as possible, so there is great anticipation and
speculation within the ranks of Tremblant Local and Regional regular
attenders about whether or not any additional terrain beyond what was
open last weekend, will be possible to have this weekend.

Our Position at Tremblant360 is that firstly, we are overjoyed to have
ANY extension of the season, and secondly, we will be overjoyed with
what-ever Tremblant decides to open, regardless of the number,
large or small.

We realize it is a huge undertaking to get all the personnel, equipment
and materials together to facilitate this extra weekend extension of the
season and we sincerely appreciate all the efforts of the Tremblant Team.

We are thrilled to be able to extend our own reporting, not only for the
personal enjoyment and healthy benefit of 3 more days of vigorous exercise,
but for the Archival recording of an extraordinarily fine conclusion to a season
of excellence in both Quality and Quantity.

Nansen, picture on the move... All the open terrain last Sunday was way beyond
historic averages for both quantity and quality for this time of year.

Lets take a look at the Weather Picture....

To begin with, we are going to look at 24 hour old Weather Projections
because those projections are holding consistent with todays realities,
so the elements of forecasting uncertainty are less, and the annotated
points have a greater probability of accuracy.

The Forecast elements favouring a "Great" Winter Ski/Board Weekend
are actually IMPROVING!!!!

Look at/compare the revised Saturday...
the rain potential has been converted to pure Snow!

As noted above, the suitability of conditions for Skill Levels from
Beginners up through to Experts will be determined by the Grooming.

Friday should start off with a very smooth and fine base as it has existed
up to this point, and with the usual grooming, should be nothing short of
magical, smooth and fast.

As the Snow begins to fly, and accumulate, the grooming takes on a
larger responsibility for Intermediates and Beginners who may not
have quite the deep snow skills of practiced Experts.

There should be a good selection for all, but certainly on the un-groomed,
deeper snow depths will favour Experts who are not going to believe they
have such fantastic Natural Snow to end the season with.

As additional information becomes available from Tremblant.ca
We will add it here for the record.

This extension of the season is a very rare Spring Treat

We had a little problem with photography today...
Very heavy Winds and Snowfall volumes, if not Blizzard type conditions.

Expo Quad Sector Summit overlooking Duncan.

The wind was so awesomely powerful(one of our other team members here
today says maybe the most wind ever for them, here, ever), it was blowing
the Duncan Quad seat bottoms up to vertical when the Chair crested the Summit
as if they were feathers. Duncan had to be run at way reduced slow speed, and
at around 10:15 A.M., it had to be shut down for safety.

At that point, Expo and Lowell Thomas took over. The South was closed all day.
You could Ski/Board out to the Resort on Nansen only.

The ambient temps were not that cold, maybe -7C or so at the Summit,
and -1 or 2C at North Base levels, but with a wind gusting at what we
would estimate in the 80-90 KMPH peak velocities, the wind chill was
enough to make it feel like a cool early January day.

It was one of those literally awesome, Mother Nature In Your Face,
weather days. Considering just how "Winter" it was on April 12th,
makes it one for the record books and bar-side bragging for a few
years, we're sure.

The weather was not really that difficult to deal with, you just had to pay
attention to details on outer Garment systems to make sure the wind
could not get inside your layers.

Conditions Wise...

Oh, there were quite a few icy zones due to the past week's sun and warm,
but, most of them were flat and with sharp edges, fairly easily traversed.

On the more positive side... a lot of our day was like this...

Gagnon to Lowell Thomas/Beauchemin Intersection.

There were nice soft powder lines everywhere. A lot of them were on the trail
sides where the trees acted as shelter for lee-side accumulations.

Considering that all that was open was North, other than the Nansen South
Ski-in, there was more than enough for a good workout, but as usual in these
rapidly evolving and very dynamic conditions, things favoured those with
expert skill levels who could shift technique gears on the fly to adjust quickly
to what could be completely different circumstances around almost every bend.

We had fun, we had solid exercise and it was an extremely interesting day
of April uniqueness. Not your typical April mushy "Micro-Wave on High" Spring
snow, that's for sure... this stuff is pure Winter.

There were probably more icy bits than we thought there might be, some of that
had to do with the wind blowing up wide open spaces so nothing to stop or
block its path. Oddly though, there was some accumulation everywhere and
even one of our favourites P'tit Bonheur which was like a wind tunnel on steroids,
very unusual, had wind driven snow formations that were shaped exactly like
the wind blown sands of any desert.

The Wind driven shapes below were rather dust-like, fine
crystalline snow. They were very fragile and cold wind-contoured
at high velocity, so they were super easy to ride through very smoothly.
The whole run just felt like a playground of satin-smooth, swift, superb
fresh winter snow.

While the middle had this unique mix of surfaces, the sides of almost every run
held more even snow. A bit father down on Beauchemin Bas, Lower, the wind was
less blustery and the powder lines were abundant 'til last run.

Beginners and Intermediates would have found it challenging, no doubt.
Too Much Snow... one of our favourite problems! Experts were having a
blast.

Two trails not on the list this morning that got at least the mid/lower portions
opened(we entered them at Mid-point), were Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin.
They deserved to be open and they frequently benefit from these types of winds
because of their narrow dimensions and the tall trail-side trees that hold snow
like scoops.

As "Experts"(way far from perfect though), we had a riot of fun in the
complete and utter uniqueness of a fine January Day on April 12th. !!!

The Preliminary Open Trail list for tomorrow shows the same 50(*) as
today, but we think there's a possibility of that list being "Dynamic", or...
Subject to change without Notice.... there's just soooo much weather
wild card potential.

Best way to think of it might be... "What ever will be, will be" and carry
on having a superb Mid April of Memory Record Winter Snow on what
ever Trails Crews can open.

We'll probably think of more to add either later or in the morning, but...

If you can go tomorrow or Sunday, plan it now.
